Description

Reporting to the Two-Spirit Program Manager - Community Engagement & Reporting, the Two-Spirit Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting CBRC’s multiple new and ongoing Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQIA+ community engagement projects. The Program Coordinator will work with provincial, federal, and Indigenous partners on projects focused on community engagement and capacity building activities in, for, and alongside Indigenous and Two-Spirit communities. They will directly coordinate the Medicine Bundle Project’s expansion and the Two-Spirit Changemakers Committee, as well as supporting programmatic evaluation and other 2S program needs. This position willwork closely with staff from other departments at CBRC, as well as our external affiliate researchers and community partner organizations across Canada.

While this position is considered permanent, please note that the continuity of all roles is contingent on sustainable funding.

Primary Job Responsibilities

This position is responsible for the following key functions:

1-Project Coordination, Community Engagement, and Partnership Support
  • Lead Coordination activities for a number of new and ongoing programs and interventions related to Two-Spirit individual and community health & connection, including coordinating testing and linkage to care initiatives.
  • Support community engagement activities including planning gatherings, conferences, and other meetings, and participating in capacity building activities.
  • Liaise with grassroots, regional, and national Two-Spirit organizations, ensuring equitable participation opportunities for smaller organizations and individuals/groups from rural or remote/isolated communities.
  • Coordinate and facilitate partner meetings (in-person and virtual).
  • Coordinate with CBRC’s Knowledge Mobilization staff to ensure resources reflect an Indigenous perspective and are culturally appropriate.
3-Evaluation Support
  • Ensure all activities include culturally appropriate data collection methods.
  • Support distribution of monitoring & evaluation tools such as surveys, and participate in focus groups as necessary.
  • Review reporting and evaluation materials for accuracy and cultural competence.
4-Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Attend project, team, department, and staff meetings as required.
  • Participate in caucuses, working groups, and committees as needed/available.
  • Is Indigenous, Two-Spirit and/or Indigiqueer, has close connections to Two-Spirit and Indigenous communities and awareness of Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQIA+ social, cultural, and political values and sensitivities.
  • Knowledge and awareness of Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing, including experience working with Elders and Knowledge Keepers; knowledge, experience, and awareness of Two-Spirit and Indigenous queer and trans kinship; knowledge of reciprocity, relationality, respect; sex positivity; body positivity; strong relationship building abilities.
Education & Experience
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as Indigenous Studies or Governance, Health, or Social Sciences or similar is an asset.
  • 2-3 years’ experience as a program coordinator, ideally in an area related to Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQIA+ health (or other health equity topics).
  • 1-2 years of experience applying values of Indigenization, decolonization, equity, social justice, anti-oppression and/or community-based research in community consultation or knowledge mobilization settings.
  • Intermediate knowledge of diverse Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQIA+ community health issues and perspectives, including by way of lived experience.
Other Competencies & Qualifications (assets)
  • Awareness of current Indigenous advocacy within “Canada.”
  • Excellent communication skills including writing.
  • Capacity to prioritize tasks and function under tight and/or competing deadlines.
  • Autonomous worker with an ability to adapt and work within a dynamic and complex team setting.
  • Ability to interact courteously and effectively with partners from varying sectors including academic and community agencies.
  • Effective critical analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Awareness of local, provincial, and national Indigenous communities, collectives, and organizations.
  • Working proficiency (or better) in French.
  • Proficiency in using computers: Microsoft 365, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and various video conferencing platforms (i.e. Teams, Zoom).
