Program Coordinator - Appendix D/Temporary Assignment (June 2025 - August 2026)

Status:Appendix D/Temporary Assignment (June 2025 – August 2026)

Hours:Monday to Friday; 35 hours/week

Home Campus:Fennell (hybrid work arrangements available)

Rate of Pay:Payband H (Starting Rate: $36.29 per hour, plus 8% in lieu of vacation and benefits)

The Bay Area Climate Change Council (BACCC) is an environmental collective, made up of 15 community leaders working to accelerate climate action in the Burlington-Hamilton, “Bay Area” region. BACCC is supported by the Cities of Burlington and Hamilton, along with the Centre for Climate Change Management at Mohawk College. Its mission is to create a sense of urgency and mobilize the community to catalyze climate action in the region. To do this, BACCC creates Implementation Teams (BACCITs) that bring together actors in the public sector, industry and community to work together on key priority projects that will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the Bay Area. These projects focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions (1) in the transportation, buildings and industrial sectors, and (2) by prioritizing the transition to low carbon energy.

The Program Coordinator - Bay Area Climate Change (BACCC) will be responsible for assisting BACCC withcommunications, social media, events, and program coordination, whileorganizing, supporting and promoting the work of BACCC and its implementation Teams (BACCITs). The ideal candidate will have extensive experience incommunications and events formulti-sector projects and facilitating collective impact initiatives. The candidate will also have experience in project coordination, socialmedia outreach, event programming,and excellent organizational and communication skills.

What you’ll be doing:

Events and Communications Coordination

  • Facilitate and plan events for BACCC stakeholders and the public at large by coordinating vendors, speakers, and sponsors for BACCC events, with consideration towards EDI principles and attendee accessibility.
  • Create communications materials in a variety of mediums to reach external audiences for BACCC initiatives.
  • Analyze event and communications campaigns for learning outcomes and improvements.
  • Present and communicate basic synopsis of BACCC’s mission to external stakeholders.

Program Coordination

  • Facilitate meetings on behalf of BACCC and BACCC’s Manager.
  • Strategize, plan, and execute innovative programs for BACCC to achieve its core mandate and reach Bay Area residents.
  • Collaborate with BACCC in the ongoing development of priority climate change programs with clear objectives, milestones, performance metrics, timeframes, implementation roles and responsibilities.
  • Coordinate Implementation Teams, student projects and other initiatives to ensure well-functioning teams, avoiding duplication of efforts, with clear definition of roles and responsibilities, and deliverables; facilitate regular meetings and project management to achieve BACCC objectives.

Program Administration

  • Keep records of program impacts and outcomes and convey to BACCC Manager.
  • Review and compare programs offered by other environmental collectives for additional program offerings at BACCC.
  • Work with BACCC Manager to provide progress reports to keep BACCC, City Councils, key stakeholders and the public informed and engaged.
  • Work with the BACCC Manager to identify necessary funds/resources for implementation of BACCC programs.
  • Support engagement and outreach campaigns.
  • Update BACCC website with relevant content, and oversee maintenance with assistance of a third-party marketing firm.
  • Record and draft meeting minutes for BACCC and BACCIT meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • A 4 year degree (or equivalent) in Urban and Regional Planning, Engineering, Sustainability, Environmental Science, and/or Environmental Resource Management.
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in: social media and multimedia initiatives, leading multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in developing and implementing sustainability and/or climate change related programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder relations and communications.
  • Demonstrated success in event facilitation and coordination.
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
