Overview

Program Coordinator – Health and Fitness (Permanent, Full-Time). Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, West Vancouver is a community on the North Shore with parks, beaches, and extensive sports, recreation and arts amenities. The West Vancouver Parks, Culture & Community Services Department seeks a permanent full-time Program Coordinator – Health and Fitness to join the Community Wellness team. Reporting to the Community Wellness and Recreation Manager, this role plans and provides active rehabilitation, personal training, seniors group fitness, and wellness programs and services. The position is primarily based at the West Vancouver Senior’s Activity Centre and the West Vancouver Community Centre.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise, develop, and mentor kinesiologists, exercise physiologists, personal trainers and fitness instructors;
  • Assess individual and community fitness needs and interests;
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate new and/or revised programs to ensure cost efficiency, effectiveness and program relevance;
  • Recruit, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate union and non-union casual staff and instructors;
  • Prepare promotional material and promote interest and participation in health and fitness programs and initiatives in the community;
  • Coordinate personal training, active rehabilitation exercise programs, health and wellness initiatives, seniors’/55+ fitness and wellness programs and special events;
  • Work collaboratively as part of an engaged team to design, support and promote district-wide health and fitness programs and services;
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate will possess strong leadership, budgetary, organizational, communication and customer service skills; prior experience and proven success in exemplary teaching methods and group leadership techniques related to fitness and rehabilitation instruction for all ages; sound knowledge of fitness facilities and equipment for a wide range of physical abilities and age groups; knowledge of the fitness and health needs, trends, interests, requirements, and resources of the community; familiarity with the philosophy, principles, practices, and objectives of community recreation.

Education and Certifications: A University Degree with courses in Health & Fitness Discipline or related subjects or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Required certifications include BCRPA Personal Trainer certification or equivalent; current CPR-C and Standard First Aid; and a valid BC Driver’s License with access to a vehicle. Proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, and Excel is required. Working knowledge of JDE and Activenet software is ideal. BCAK Registered Kinesiologist and BCRPA Older Adult Fitness Leader designations are assets.

Other requirements: The successful candidate will be required to supply an acceptable Police Information Check and a copy of credentials.

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary)

Rate of Pay: $35.72 per hour. This position includes a pay structure with five steps increasing annually.
