CAREERS : The Next Generation is a unique, non-profit organization raising youth awareness of career options and helping students earn while they learn through internships. We partner with government, educators, communities, industry, parents, and students to introduce youth to rewarding careers and develop the skilled workers of the future.

We are seeking a full-time, permanent Program Coordinator for the Fort McMurray region. In this role, you will build relationships with local industry to increase awareness of mentoring youth and create opportunities for high school students to apprentice and intern in their companies. Reporting to the Regional Manager, you will provide student awareness presentations and internship support to schools, fostering community engagement.

Please note, this role is a maternity coverage and will last 14 months.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage student internship programs, including employer recruitment, coordination of placements with schools, and monitoring student progress.
  • Present CAREERS student awareness workshops to students, in person or online, across the region, promoting programs such as Skilled Trades / RAP, Indigenous Youth Internship Program, Young Women in Trades, Health, Agriculture, Forestry, and ICT.
  • Deliver information sessions to individuals and groups.
  • Engage with employers regarding programs and internship opportunities, including Indigenous youth engagement.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, including employers, associations, students, parents, schools, educators, Indigenous communities, and partners.
  • Identify community needs and resources; implement plans for CAREERS programs.
  • Collaborate with team members and assist in organizing CAREERS events to achieve results and promote the program.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Enthusiastic, energetic, and capable of engaging with employer representatives at all levels.
  • Proven success in results-oriented sales and partnership building.
  • Related experience and/or education in business, industry, education, or career development.
  • Strong time management, organization, and coordination skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Active in community engagement and/or volunteerism.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and customer relationship management databases.
  • Experience with computer-based tracking of activities and schedules.
  • Satisfactory criminal and child welfare checks are required.
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle are essential.
