Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The Program Assistant, Supportive Housing, will work in conjunction with the Program Team to provide additional support to the tenants of the facility. Some duties may include in-room support with laundry or meal prep, accompaniment to appointments and activities as outlined in their personal plans.
Shift schedule: Saturday-Sunday (2:00 PM - 6:00 PM)
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Basic Functions/Responsibilities
Provides support to tenants and staff in program delivery
Assists with daily operations, laundry, food services prep, light cleaning
Is involved in accompaniment off-site with tenants, reporting to Key Workers daily activities in conjunction with personal plans
Consistently demonstrates respect and empathy for all tenants
Maintains availability for personal, practical, and moral support
Accurately records relevant information to support staff
Liaises with referral sources and other external agencies as needed
Ensures ongoing enforcement of policies
Performs other job-related duties as required to ensure a safe and secure environment
Written and Verbal Communication
The incumbent will have good verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Accurately records and reports any tenant information relevant employees
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
Governance Boards and Councils: None
Internal: tenants of supportive housing, the Key Workers and front desk staff, other staff and volunteers in the building.
External: might have to communicate with community members and community groups/organizations.
MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:
Reports directly to: Program Supervisor
Direct reports for this position: N/A
May show others how to perform certain procedures
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
The incumbent will not be involved in receiving, handling or disbursements of funds
The incumbent may make small program purchases under the authority of their supervisor
The incumbent has no input into the annual budget
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The incumbent’s work environment is typically in a supportive housing
The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:
Isolation
Monotony
Odors
Dealing with angry people
Verbal abuse
Work schedule affecting lifestyle
Exposure to bodily fluids, bodily waste
Exposure to drugs and alcohol
The incumbent may have little to no travel required.
The incumbent carries a pager/walkie talkie and will work shifts.
The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor to moderate injury or illness due to:
Physical attacks by others
Exposure to infectious diseases
Exposure to bodily fluids
Sharp objects
Other dangerous situations
CONCENTRATION REQUIRED:
The performance of the job requires continuously monitoring the environment, frequently interacting with clients, attentive listening, and moderate attention when recording information.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
Completion of some high school course work is required
A Grade 12 certificate or equivalent will be considered a strong asset
CPR, First Aid
Non-Violent Crisis Training is an asset
Strong service ethic and a friendly disposition with the public
Adaptability to change and frequent interruptions
Team oriented and able to take initiative
Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
Willingness to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
The incumbent must have up to one year of related experience, including experience with frontline work in a social service setting.

The salary range is based on the Collective Agreement, not any other factors
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $19.23 to $19.61 with a maximum of $19.98.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
