Job description

Hours: 37.5 hours per week. Shifts are Monday to Friday (9:00am-5:00pm) with one late shift (11:00am-7:00pm) per week on a set schedule. Some flexibility in work hours may be required.

How You Will Make An Impact

With a demonstrated commitment to the values of availability, flexibility, adaptability, hospitality, and dignity, the Program Assistant will work in an emergency shelter setting serving families from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

  • Provide receptionist duties for the program, answering phones and doors, greeting and directing service-users and visitors as the first point of contact.
  • Provide basic clerical support such as data entry, record keeping, filing, maintaining program inventory and supplies, sending emails, and following up on maintenance requests and work orders.
  • Assist Reaching Home Division programs with determining program eligibility using an assessment tool.
  • Maintain cleanliness of storage areas and common spaces.
  • Work primarily in the office, with opportunities for community visits to purchase supplies, drop off items, or pick up donations.
  • Willing and able to assist with all aspects of program operation in a hands-on capacity.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Communicate in a calm, welcoming, and professional manner to preserve the dignity of all people.
  • Participate in Good Shepherd's Health and Safety programs, procedures, and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act to minimize risks.

What You Will Bring To Our Team

  • Post-secondary education in Social / Community (or related) field is required.
  • Minimum 1-year related experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong communication skills.
  • Experience with HIFIS or EMHware database is an asset.
  • Fluency in a second language is an asset.
  • CPR certification or willingness to obtain it.
  • Valid G license required.

  • Understanding of workplace health and safety practices and legislation.
