Job description

Hours: 37.5 hours per week. Shifts are Monday to Friday (9:00am-5:00pm) with one late shift (11:00am-7:00pm) per week on a set schedule. Som flexibility in work hours may be required.

How You Will Make An Impact

With a demonstrated commitment to the values of availability, flexibility, adaptability, hospitality and dignity, the Program Assistant will work in an emergency shelter setting serving families from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.

  • Provide receptionist duties for the program, answering phones and doors, greeting and directing service-users and visitors as the first point of contact
  • Provide basic clerical support such as basic data entry, record keeping and filing, maintaining program inventory and supplies, sending emails, submission and follow up of maintenance requests and work orders
  • Assisting Reaching Home Division programs with determining program eligibility using an assessment tool
  • Maintain cleanliness of storage areas and common spaces
  • Work takes place primarily in the office however, opportunities arise that may include visits in the community to purchase program supplies, drop off items, or pick up donations
  • Must be willing and able to assist with all aspects of program operation in a hands-on capacity
  • Ability to work independently, cooperatively and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Preserve the dignity of all people by communicating in a calm, welcoming, and professional manner
  • Responsible for participating in Good Shepherd's Health and Safety programs, procedures, procedures and work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations to minimize risk to clients, staff and others as well as to the property of the Good Shepherd

What You Will Bring To Our Team

  • Post-secondary education in Social / Community (or related) field is required
  • Minimum 1-year related experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and strong written and oral communication skills required
  • Experience with HIFIS or EMHware database an asset
  • Fluency in a 2nd language is an asset
  • CPR certification or willingness to be certified is required
  • Valid G license required
