Job description

Program Assistant s Play & Learn

Locations: Crestwood STEM School, Dr. Ken Sauer Fine Arts School, George Davison School, Vincent Massey School, and TBD

Medicine Hat Public School Division is accepting applications for Program Assistants for our Licensed Play & Learn programs. This is a 3-hour position, which may be combined with a 3-hour EA position for current employees. It is a ten-month position offering competitive compensation and employee benefits.

The primary role of the Program Assistants is to support the Primary Early Childhood Educators (ECE) in implementing programming for kindergarten-aged children. Responsibilities include delivering activities that promote early literacy, numeracy, motor skills, and social-emotional development during the 2025-2026 school year. Successful candidates may continue in the role if enrollment supports. The position begins on August 28, 2025.

Qualifications:

  • Level 1, 2, or 3 Alberta Early Childhood Educator Certification
  • Intermediate First Aid / CPR
  • Criminal record check with vulnerable sector check completed within the last three months

Ideal candidates will have:

  • The ability to follow a program plan that supports learning through play, guided by Alberta's Early Learning and Care Framework
  • A commitment to collaborative work with Primary ECEs to support student success and broader school community engagement
  • Flexibility and adaptability to deliver effective programming for children
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication to build positive relationships
  • An understanding of child development and experience working with children with diverse needs
  • Ability to understand and implement ISPs and behavior support plans
  • Knowledge of the Alberta Early Learning and Childcare Act and Regulations
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development
