Job description

Hours: 15 hours per weekend. Hours of work are days (8:00am-4:00pm) and evenings (12:00pm-8:00pm) on a rotating weekend schedule. Some flexibility in work hours may be required.

How You Will Make An Impact

  • Provide receptionist duties for the program, answering phones and doors, greeting and directing service-users and visitors as the first point of contact
  • Provide basic clerical support such as basic data entry, record keeping and filing, maintaining program inventory and supplies, sending emails, submission and follow up of maintenance requests and work orders
  • Maintain cleanliness of units, storage areas and common spaces
  • Assist with all aspects of program operation
  • Work takes place primarily in the emergency shelter however, opportunities arise that may include visits in the community to purchase program supplies, drop off items, or pick up donations
  • Must be willing and able to assist with all aspects of program operation in a hands-on capacity
  • Ability to work independently, cooperatively and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Preserve the dignity of all people by communicating in a calm, welcoming, and professional manner
  • Time management skills are necessary in a high energy, changing environment
  • Provide coverage when Full Time Program Assistant is on vacation or away from the office

Responsible for participating in Good Shepherd's Health and Safety programs, procedures, procedures and work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations to minimize risk to clients, staff and others as well as to the property of the Good Shepherd

What You'll Bring To Our Team

  • Post-secondary education in Social Services or a related field is required
  • Experience working in a residential setting is preferred
  • Minimum 1-year related experience in community outreach or emergency shelter, and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience in Social Services or a related field
  • Have knowledge of and have experience working with a range of issues impacting families including homelessness, violence against women and children, immigration, poverty, mental illness and substance use
  • Commitment to and experience working within a person-centered, trauma-informed, harm reduction and housing first framework
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, verbal and written communication, time management and organization, and ability to prioritize workload
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Experience with HIFIS & EMHware is an asset
  • CPR certification or willingness to be certified is required
  • A valid G license is preferred
  • Fluency in a 2nd language is an asset
