The Acute Care Program is seeking a full-time, temporary (6 months), Program Assistant to work in the Medical Withdrawal Service (MWS). Reporting to the Manager, you will contribute to the organization and safe and optimal function of the unit under the direction of the clinical staff, and promote maintenance of the therapeutic milieu as a member of the interprofessional team. Operating in a trauma-informed, harm-reduction paradigm, you will participate in supportive interactions and monitoring of individual and group clients, providing direct care and support. You will accompany clients for medical clearance and other transfers as necessary. You will supervise and facilitate client participation in group and individual activities, communicate observations and assessments, and help maintain safety within the program. You will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all regulatory and legislative requirements. The position involves shift rotation and weekend work and is located at the Queen St. site.

Job Requirements
  • At least a Secondary School diploma and/or Special Courses, with 6 months to 1 year of relevant healthcare experience.
  • Personal Care Worker Certificate or pursuing a health care discipline certificate/diploma/degree.
  • CPR certification is an asset.
  • Ability to reflect on biases and demonstrate empathy.
  • Effective interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with mental health and addictions issues.
  • Ability to work with diverse backgrounds; bilingualism (French/English) or additional languages are assets.
