Job summary

The Muslim Association of Canada in Mississauga, Ontario, seeks a Seasonal Contract Full-Time Librarian to partner with teaching staff, support EnrichIt! activities, hot lunch and uniform programs, and foster student literacy through library resources.

Seasonal Contract Full-Time Mississauga, ON, CA

Job Summary

This position is responsible for partnering with teaching staff to run the EnrichIt! activitites, support hot lunch and school uniform programs along with fostering student literacy through the management of the library. The role involves providing specialized instruction to both faculty and students, overseeing the selection, organization, utilization, and maintenance of library resources to enhance the academic experience. The candidate will also support various school programs as needed including extracurricular activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties, though not exhaustive, are part of the job\'s responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with teachers to integrate information and technology literacy instruction, assisting students and staff in identifying appropriate resources to achieve educational goals.
  • Collaborate with teachers to organize curriculum-based activities and trips throughout the year to enhance the student learning experience.
  • Lead school initiatives to support the literacy program.
  • Support the Hot Lunch program at the school
  • Support the school uniform program at school, track inventory, follow up with parent orders and handle any issues that may rise.
  • Reinforce strategy-based reading instruction to aid students in extracting meaning from texts, supporting their engagement with various genres as outlined in the state reading and writing curriculum.
  • Promote reading for information and pleasure among students and staff, cultivating a library culture that fosters an appreciation for literature and supports reading incentive programs.
  • Develop and maintain a diverse library collection of print, non-print, and electronic resources that support curricular needs, literacy development, and student interests.
  • Provide training and guidance to library support staff, ensuring the smooth implementation of the library program. Oversee the management of equipment, materials, and facilities while handling the annual budget, and adhering to state procedures for circulation, cataloging, and processing.
  • Participate in professional development activities, including in-service courses and meetings, to continue growing in the role.
  • Interact daily with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and staff to facilitate communication and support.
  • Manage physical tasks such as moving, lifting, and storing materials and equipment as needed.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to design and implement effective instruction and classroom management strategies.
  • Utilize automated library systems for collection maintenance, purchasing, cataloging, and inventory management.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, and staff to support a collaborative school environment.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports as required.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents to ensure a cohesive working environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Library Science preferred.
  • Experience in school library work is desirable but not required for hire.
  • Knowledge of current literature trends in youth literature is essential.

  • Knowledge of child development, particularly physical, emotional, and developmental patterns.
  • A collaborative team player with experience working in a cooperative environment.
