Job Summary:

The Program Assistant will work closely with community members, partner organizations, and other programs in the Nepean area. They are responsible for assisting with the facilitation of programs and registration, pre/post-program preparations and helping to build connections with participants. This position requires reliability, facilitation skills, organizational skills and the ability to work well within a team.

Program Description:

The Backyard Community Gardening Project Program Assistant position supports project activities within one or more communities in the Nepean area. This versatile position may involve assisting with procuring and delivering gardening supplies, outreach among families, supporting adult engagement and community events as well as general administrative tasks. Must have the ability to work evenings and occasional weekends.

Job Specific Responsibilities:

  • Outreach activities to residents/clients to help build community connections
  • Assist in implementing a community-based gardening program for families
  • Provide information about community resources to community members
  • Perform administrative duties related to the program as delegated
  • Participate as an active team member in staff meetings
  • Assist with the project operations as appropriate
  • Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or 2-3 years related experience in a community setting
  • Related experience in a community setting and community programs.
  • Experience working with the program-specific population/diverse communities and knowledge of related community resources is a strong asset
  • Mobility Requirements: Physical capacity to lift up to 25 lbs could be required based on program responsibilities
  • Fluency in French or English is essential; fluency in Somali, Arabic, or Farsi is an asset; fluency in other languages is desirable.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications
  • Valid First Aid and CPR (level C) is an asset
