The Position:

Reporting to the Director of Negotiations, the Program Analyst – Health, Safety and Wellness (HSW) provides support and advocates for members' health, safety, and wellness. This in-scope position will be based in our Edmonton office and work as part of a team that includes a Sr. Advisor, HSW, to develop and facilitate workshop sessions, support the execution of Health, Safety and Wellness lobbying and advocacy efforts. The incumbent of this position will conduct analysis and make recommendations for program, policy, and process development to ensure the efficacy of HSAA’s health and safety management program. Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Respond to members’ health, safety, and wellness issues and concerns via phone or email.
  • Collaborate closely with the Sr. Advisor, HSW to ensure alignment of engagement efforts and issue resolution strategies.
  • Conduct research and stay up to date with changing legislation and best practices.
  • Develop and update email templates for member and local unit correspondence.
  • Coordinate and track JHSWC activities to ensure Employer and membership operate according to rules and regulations.
  • Facilitate the appointment process of members to JWHSC’s in accordance with legislation and HSAA policy.
  • Maintain Health Safety Wellness representative database.
  • Conduct review and revamp of current presentation materials.
  • Assist in planning workshops, webinars, and conferences to promote member understanding of health, safety, and wellness issues.
  • Conduct program analysis and make recommendations for program, policy, and process improvement up and through the Sr. Advisor, HSW and the Director of Negotiations.
  • Conduct research on publications and best practices.

What You Bring:

  • A minimum of a certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or a related program.
  • A strong background in Occupational Health legislation, policy, and procedures.
  • Strong union values and a commitment to continual evaluation and service enhancement.
  • Skills in project management and planning are an asset.
  • Interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and presentation skills.
  • Experience developing and executing Occupational Health and Safety plans and strategies.
  • Strong analytical skills are essential to provide solutions and resolve problems.
  • Adept at building and maintaining relationships across the organization.
  • Staying ahead of emerging trends to enhance the quality of advice provided.
  • Ability to work outside of regular business hours with the ability to travel, as required.
  • Work well under pressure; a creative problem solver who can meet tight deadlines within a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with organized union structures and some knowledge of the current health care system in Alberta.
  • Commitment to trade union philosophy and public healthcare which supports your ability to make key recommendations for program, policy, and process development ensuring advancement of HSAA’s strategic plans.

What we offer:

Competitive Compensation: $49.94 to $60.78 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Work-Life Balance: 35-hour work week. Flexible work schedule available.
