Job description

Sheridan is looking for outstanding individuals to join our faculty team in the Industrial Mechanic Millwright (IMM) Skilled Trades apprenticeship program. This program provides students with a high degree of practical skills and theoretical knowledge in industrial and or construction trade sectors. Sheridan seeks part-time professors with the following expertise in the industrial mechanic millwright trade:

  • Millwright Machinists
  • Millwright Welders
  • Millwright Electricians

The incumbent will teach the following subjects in accordance with curriculum prescribed by Skilled Trades Ontario: Industrial Mechanic Millwright (433A).

Sheridan professors are responsible for developing an effective learning environment for students while respecting their diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Delivering course curriculum in classroom and/or online, which includes ensuring student awareness of course objectives, approach and evaluation techniques;
  • Ensuring that course curricula are current, relevant and reflective of best practices and updates to occupational health and safety regulations;
  • Tutoring and academic counselling of students, while evaluating student progress/achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the students’ work within assigned courses;
  • Defining, evaluating and validating learning outcomes and designing appropriate strategies and tools for assessing student learning;
  • Developing multi-media materials and alternative delivery strategies in support of the hybrid platform of Sheridan’s electrical skilled trades programs, and incorporating appropriate educational technologies into the learning process for an immersive online learning experience for students;
  • Attending periodic faculty meetings;
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

The successful candidate(s) will also meet the following qualifications:

  • Licensed Industrial Mechanic Millwright (Trade Code 433A) OR Interprovincial Red Seal Industrial Mechanic (Millwright);
  • Minimum of 5 years related professional experience;
  • Availability to teach daytime, evenings and weekends;
  • Applicants must demonstrate mastery of current materials, tools/equipment and industry practices;
  • Formal studies in adult or higher education an asset;
  • Demonstrable ability to convey the conceptual and applied aspects of knowledge to a broad range of students;
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems, especially the D2L platform, is an asset;
  • Experience in teaching and curriculum development at the post-secondary level or equivalent experience as a trainer in industry preferred;
  • Strong network of contacts with other professionals in the Skilled Trades industry.
