Position Title: Professor, Indigenous Studies and General Education
Status: Full-Time Academic
Hours: Varies
Faculty/Department: Faculty of Liberal Arts & Sciences
Campus/Location: North Campus and Lakeshore Campus
Salary: Academic starting salaries are determined based on qualifications and years of related experience as detailed in the collective agreement for academic employees.

- Teaching philosophy (no more than 500 words in length)
- Resume
- Lesson plan for a 3-hour diploma or degree breadth level class on the subject of Indigenous resurgence and the Canadian context.
About the Professor of Indigenous Studies and General Education Role:
The successful candidate will have an MA in Indigenous Studies, or a related field. They will be capable of teaching Indigenous studies courses, with at least some of these courses focused on the Ontario and/or Canadian context. A new hire who can contribute in these teaching and curriculum development areas will help the department meet the high demand for Indigenous Course Requirement (ICR) courses, while also supporting the Liberal Studies department’s commitment to including Indigenous ways of being, knowing and doing in our general education and degree breadth curriculum.

Education
MA in Indigenous Studies, or a related field.
Experience
- The successful candidate will have teaching experience in postsecondary education, or experience within Indigenous education.
- Strong knowledge and experience in engaging with Indigenous knowledge systems, histories, contemporary experiences, cultural practices, protocols, and pedagogies.
- Developed research skills, including methods and methodologies that are consistent with and appropriate for engaging with Indigenous Ways of Being, Knowing, and Doing.
- Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities, including the ability to develop and maintain relationships with colleagues, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and other members of Indigenous communities.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in and contribute to an integrated and collaborative team environment, applying a positive team approach, building consensus, and leading integrated project teams.
- Strong knowledge of Indigenization and its complexities in education, including the TRC’s Final Report and Calls to Action, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls report.
- Awareness of colonial histories in Canada and the impacts of colonization on Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.
