Professor in Environmental Technologies for Energy Transition

Join INRS!

Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) is a human-scale university-level institution dedicated to research and graduate training. Our organization, with its 700 employees, has been supporting innovation and excellence since 1969 in a dynamic and multidisciplinary work environment.

Do you want your research to make a difference? Join an institution that stands out. More than just a university: a community!

As a member of INRS, you will contribute to its mission of research and graduate training serving Quebec society.

Position Summary

Ranked first in Canada for research intensity (grant total per professor), INRS comprises 170 professors and about 800 students and postdoctoral fellows across four centres in Quebec City, Montreal, Varennes, and Laval.

INRS Eau Terre Environnement Research Centre (ETE), located in Quebec City within the Quebec Metro High-Tech Park, hosts 37 faculty members, 100 research/support staff, 33 administrative staff, and 220 graduate students.

INRS’s Joint Research Units (UMRs) are partnerships with universities to develop research in areas like materials and technologies for the energy transition, cybersecurity, digital transformation, sustainable health, and Indigenous studies. These UMRs train students, foster regional impacts, and involve professors from multiple institutions.

The Centre invites applications for a Professor position in environmental technologies for energy transition within the UMR in collaboration with UQTR. The focus is on climate change mitigation through decarbonization, emphasizing batteries, hydrogen, and critical mineral recycling, in a region vital to the energy transition sector.

The successful candidate will be part of the professorial assembly or ETE Centre, working at UQTR's UMR facilities, collaborating with researchers focused on physical, chemical, and numerical approaches to energy systems and materials development.

The candidate’s research should focus on emerging energy transition areas, including batteries, green hydrogen, innovative materials, circular economy, and waste recycling. They will utilize existing infrastructure like the LISTE laboratory and upcoming facilities at INRS-UQTR.

Main Roles and Responsibilities

Establish an independent research program, secure funding, participate in training activities, supervise students and staff, and contribute to the UMR’s and INRS’s scientific and regional influence.
