Job summary

Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo is seeking a full-time Professor for the Child and Youth Care program. The position involves delivering courses across years 1–4 in a blended in-person/remote format, and guiding students in applying theory to practice.

Candidates should hold a Master’s in Child and Youth Care, have 3–5 years of post-secondary teaching experience and 7 years of practical CYC work, plus a BC Driver’s license. Expect commitment to student success and service.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Child and Youth Care or related field.
• 3–5 years recent teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
• 7 years practical experience in Child and Youth Care with children, youth, or families.
• Knowledge of Indigenous ways of knowing and cultural teachings.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer competence.
• Must possess a valid BC Class 5 Driver's License and have a satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

• Developing, preparing and delivering courses across first through fourth year in a blended in-person/remote environment.
• Designing and evaluating student assignments and other performance measures.
• Facilitating theory-to-practice integration through classroom, lab and field placements.
• Attending faculty meetings and participating in committee work within the program and Faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services.
• Participating in program initiatives such as advising, recruitment, admissions, curriculum development and facilitative duties.
• Travel to various practice settings on Vancouver Island may be required.
