The Professional Practice Leader functions as a consultant and resource to clinical staff and program leadership with respect to professional practice, in order to promote person-centered care within an interprofessional practice environment. The Professional Practice Leader supports the application, implementation, and maintenance of professional practice standards within a program-based structure and assumes a leadership role in professional development, quality improvement and research activities within the profession. The Professional Practice Leader liaises with educational facilities, professional associations, regulatory Colleges and other appropriate groups to help to inform processes which promote excellence in professional practice. Acting as a strong leader and exemplary role model, the incumbent will contribute to achieving the Mission, Vision and Values of Providence Care through living the values at every opportunity and facilitating communication and profession-specific knowledge translation throughout Providence Care.
Education & Experience
- Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or an equivalent combination of relevant to area of profession clinical practice experience and education
- Five (5) years of recent related experience including progressive professional practice, education, research and leadership experience
- An equivalent combination of education, training and recent experience may be considered
- Active, unrestricted license to practice with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario
- Experience with interprofessional processes in the delivery of person-centered, including recovery-oriented, care
- Experience and familiarity with professional standards of practice and with applicable legislation including, but not limited to, Regulated Health Professions Act, Mental Health Act, Public Hospitals Act, and profession-specific acts.
Position Duties & Responsibilities
- Stays current with, informs and supports clinical staff and program leadership regarding Speech-Language Pathologists standards of practice
- Promotes a high standard of professional practice and Speech-Language Pathologists competencies
- Promotes the alignment of internal professional practice with the external evolution of the profession
- Ensures the establishment, implementation, and evaluation of policies/procedures and practices that are in alignment with standards of practice of the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario, legislation, Code of Ethics, and hospital policy
- Monitors current legislation, regulations, and professional association for trends and/or issues that relate to professional practice and facilitates the dissemination and discussion of this information to colleagues, and as relevant to Advanced Practice Leader, Allied Health and program leadership
- Communicates changes to Speech-Language Pathologists competencies and/or standards of practice in collaboration with the Advanced Practice Leader, Allied Health, Director of Professional Practice and Clinical Informatics, program leadership, and others, as appropriate
- Provides support and strong leadership in the implementation of changes in professional standards of practice within and across programs
