Job description

Reporting directly to the Branch Manager, the position is responsible for driving a school bus providing safe, reliable and professional transportation for passengers. Safety and positive customer relations are the cornerstones of this position.

Maintain a professional and cordial relationship with passengers, the public, other motorists,
parents, school staff and other company employees.
2. Drive a school bus over an assigned route as directed by the school board. Inform branch manager of any adjustments (delays, rerouting, stops, etc.) to set schedule.
3. Perform the required pre-trip inspection, report to and follow up with the maintenance department regarding mechanical defects.
4. Maintain the vehicle logbook and ensure that maintenance staff has signed off noted repairs.
5. Exercise punctuality on arrival time for first scheduled pick up and thereafter, driving according to the conditions of the road without exceeding posted speed limits.
6. Maintain an orderly bus, implementing a seating plan where necessary, reporting any inappropriate behaviour of passengers via ‘pink slip’ process and meeting with school officials and/or supervisor regarding such issues.
7. Follow both company and school board rules for the safe transportation of students.
8. Check the interior of the vehicle after every group exits to ensure that no passenger is left behind on the vehicle.
9. Maintain high company standards by keeping the vehicle’s interior clean and tidy, organize a bus wash when necessary and follow the company’s dress codes.

10. Itemize and submit all necessary paperwork (daily hours of work sheets, mileage sheet,
adjustments to route map, route descriptions, student counts and pink slips).
11. Report all incidents, collisions and breakdowns to the Branch Manager and fill in associated
reports.
12. Participate in mandatory company training programs.
13. Maintain complete knowledge and comply with company policies, procedures, and standards.
14. Maintain client and company confidence by keeping information confidential and secure.
15. Maintain a positive working relationship with team members and management in a team environment.
16. Set-up and organize individual work area with designated supplies, forms and resource materials while maintaining cleanliness at all times.
17. Represent the company in a front-line capacity.

Skills Required

1. Must have a “G” class license not a probationary license
For a B Class license
2. Age requirement for the Ministry of Transportation is 21
3. Criminal search requirement for a B Class license for the Ministry of Transportation
4. A satisfactory driver abstract
5. Ability to pass a required Ministry of Transportation medical, vision and written test prior to
undergoing the company “B” license training program and maintain a class “B” license- License
must also be maintained via applicable renewals as per the Ministry requirements
6. Complete a School Bus Driver Improvement Course
