Job summary

Bombardier is seeking an Avionics Systems Engineering professional in Mississauga to drive development, testing, certification and in-service support for state-of-the-art avionics on business aircraft.

You will define system requirements, coordinate with suppliers, and oversee integration and verification activities. The role requires DO-178/160/254 and ARP4754 familiarity, strong communication, and travel willingness, with a hybrid work schedule.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Electrical, Electronics, Software, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of Avionics Systems.
  • Understanding of how avionics integrates with aircraft.
  • Familiar with DO-178, DO-160, DO-254 and ARP4754.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Define and manage engineering-related system and subsystem requirements to meet safety, certification and aircraft design objectives.
  • Coordinate with system suppliers and interfacing disciplines to ensure proper integration on the aircraft.
  • Lead integration of avionics subsystems (AFCS, Communications, Navigation, Displays, IMS/Data, Cabin connectivity) on the aircraft.
  • Review, analyze and approve test results.
  • Support ARP4754 system and aircraft verification and validations.
  • Manage and approve deliverables from Avionics System Suppliers and liaise with Certifying Authorities for certification.
  • Contribute to software development for crew alerting logic, I/O configuration in an IMA environment, and automation of aircraft-level functions.

What are your contributions to the team?

In your role as an Avionics Systems / Engineering Professional, you will be responsible for performing various tasks related to the development, testing, certification, and in-service support of Avionics Systems of state-of-the-art business aircraft.

More specifically:

  • Define and manage engineering-related system and subsystem requirements to ensure safety, certification & aircraft design requirements and objectives are met
  • Work with the system suppliers as well as other interfacing suppliers and disciplines to ensure the system is properly designed to be integrated smoothly on the aircraft
  • Be responsible for the timely integration of systems, such as AFCS, Communication (VHF, HF, SATCOM, Datalink), Navigation (ADF, VOR, ILS, DME, TCAS, Transponder, IRS, GPS, FMS, Weather Radar), Displays (EFIS, EICAS, HUD, SVS), Information/Maintenance & Recording (IMS, OMS, Data load, CVR, FDR, AHMS), Cabin connectivity, on the aircraft.
  • Review, analyze and approve the test results
  • Conduct and support ARP4754 system and aircraft verification and validations
  • Manage, review and approve the deliverables of the Avionics System Suppliers.
  • Liaise with Certifying Authorities and/or support their delegates in achieving system certification.
  • Support any engineering design related issues and bring them to closure
  • Participate in the development and implementation of software for customization of crew alerting logic and synoptics pages, I/O configuration into an IMA environment, and automation of aircraft-level functions.
How to thrive in this role?
  • You hold a university degree in Electrical, Electronics, Software, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.
  • We have openings from junior level (5 years) to senior engineer.
  • Strong knowledge of Avionics Systems.
  • You understand how these systems integrate and interact with the overall aircraft.
  • Knowledge and/or Experience in Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) systems (Asset).
  • You have knowledge with the specification, design, integration, test, and certification of Avionics systems on aircraft.
  • You are familiar with the industry standards DO-178, DO-160, DO-254 and ARP4754 (Asset).
  • You have strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • You have excellent problem-solving skills, work planning structure and prioritization.
  • You can work well in a team environment.
  • You are willing to travel

This position has a hybrid work schedule and requires mandatory 2 days per week in the office.

The base salary for this position is expected to range from CAD $104,000 to CAD $128,000 per year. The applicable base salary will be determined based on various criteria, at Bombardier’s sole discretion, such as the candidate’s skills, experience and qualifications.

In some cases, the base salary offered may differ from the expected range of base salary listed above.
