Job Description

Based in Edmonton at the Electrical Division, the Production Worker - Steel Fab will report to the Manufacturing Supervisor of the Fabrication department. Under the guidance of the Journeyman Welder, the role involves using various skills and tools to produce precision parts and assemble Powell Canada products.

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Assist with daily and weekly preventative maintenance of metalworking machinery.
  2. Move parts between manufacturing operations as per routing.
  3. Load and unload steel or other products from trucks (indoor/outdoor).
  4. Help organize the shop and yard.
  5. Assist Brake Operators with heavy or awkward parts during braking operations.
  6. Support machine operators and Welders as needed.
  7. Remove finished parts from sheet metal skeletons.
  8. Deburr, grind, or finish metal parts using air/electric grinders or sanders.
  9. Sort and stack parts by part and job number.
  10. Assemble kits of parts for welding.
  11. Operate pallet jacks, forklifts, and cranes.
  12. Use general hand tools like hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.
  13. Perform labor tasks such as painting, grinding, sanding, or cleaning as directed.
  14. Promote safety and attend safety meetings.
  15. Follow standard work instructions to ensure quality and identify risks.
  16. Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  17. Perform other duties as required.

Core Competencies

  1. Ability to read tape measures, including conversions between fractions, decimals, and metric/inch.
  2. Conscientious, thorough, accurate, and reliable.
  3. Ability to learn and follow manufacturing policies and ISO standards.
  4. Effective team player and communicator in English.

Qualifications

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. 1-2 years metal fabrication experience is an asset.
  3. Safety certifications are an asset.

Working Conditions

  1. Temperature-controlled environment with some outdoor activities.
  2. Require PPE at all times.
  3. Ability to work from ladders of various types.

Physical Requirements

  1. Maintain body balance and agility.
  2. Repetitive bending, standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  3. Use of hand tools and power tools for extended periods.
