Job summary

Fortis Life Sciences, a global life sciences leader, seeks a Manufacturing Technician for a full‑time contract at its Toronto facility. You will support membrane production, including formulation, casting, coating, inspection, and labeling, under GMP and SOP guidance.

The role reports to the Director of Manufacturing; schedule is Mon-Fri 8:30 am–5:00 pm, with overtime and weekends. Initial contract is eight months, with potential for extension or permanency.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary diploma in science or a related technical discipline.
• 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing or laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform manufacturing and assembly activities including formulation, casting, coating, inspection and in-process testing of membranes.
• Follow SOPs, GMP, GDP, GLP and established work instructions.
• Complete batch records and manufacturing documentation accurately.
• Assist with setup, operation and routine maintenance of production equipment.
• Prepare polymers and raw materials for membrane production.
• Meet production schedules and departmental priorities.
• Maintain documentation and inventory records, logbooks and databases.
• Identify defects or quality issues and report them promptly.
• Contribute to process improvements and development of better procedures.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Fortis-IPOC is seeking a Manufacturing Technician for a full-time contract position at our Toronto facility.

The initial contract duration is eight (8) months, with the possibility of extension or permanent employment based on performance and business needs.

Reporting to the Director of Manufacturing, the Manufacturing Technician will support the manufacturing of our blood plasma separation membranes, including formulation, casting, coating, inspection and labeling processes.

Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, with overtime and weekend work.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Perform various activities of product manufacturing and assembly, including formulation, casting, coating, inspection, and in-process testing of membranes.
• Follow and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and established work instructions.
• Accurately complete batch records and manufacturing documentation.
• Assist with the setup, operation, and routine maintenance of production equipment.
• Prepare polymers and raw materials for membrane production.
• Ensure completion of work according to production schedules and departmental priorities.
• Maintain departmental documentation including database updates, inventory records, and logbooks.
• Identify potential defects or quality issues during production and report them appropriately.
• Provide input to process improvements and assist with development of improved manufacturing procedures.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Experience

• Post-secondary diploma in science or a related technical discipline; technical diploma preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing or laboratory environment, preferably within a regulated, chemical, pharmaceutical, medical device, polymer, film, coating, or related process manufacturing environment.

Skills

• Experience operating manufacturing equipment, including vernier calipers, precision scales, automated & manual cutting machines.
• Basic troubleshooting skills.
• Familiarity with ERP systems; Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) is an asset.
• Working knowledge of GMP, GDP, GLP, and quality systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
• Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
• Combination of laboratory and manufacturing environments.
• Ability to stand and sit for extended periods.
• Ability to lift/move materials weighing up to 8 kg.
• May involve working with biochemical materials and compressed gases, including larger-volume containers.
• Required to follow applicable safety procedures and PPE requirements.
