Job description

Our client, a leading financial institution in Calgary, is looking for a Production Support Analyst for Commodities and Futures to provision the global onsite-offshore front office application support team and provide support for commodities and futures applications and their interfaces with various vendors, upstream, downstream, infrastructure, databases, and more. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with one of the Top 5 banks in Canada.

Typical Day in Role:

This role requires the candidate to drive strategic initiatives related to process improvement, release automation, proactive monitoring automation, and enforcing compliance across applications to reduce incidents and increase operational efficiency.

  1. Provide leadership to a global application support team of over 20 members, ensuring maximum uptime through 24×7 support. Manage trading applications such as Commodities Open Link, SOA, Pricing Database, XTP, Seals, and other supporting trading systems.
  2. Contribute to defining the vision, strategies, and direction for the Commodities and Futures Production Services organization, providing leadership to drive change and execute strategic goals.
  3. Support applications and infrastructure, collaborate with business users, manage change, incidents, problems, conduct audits, monitor EOD batches, automate tasks, and plan infrastructure and BCP testing.
  4. Work with senior management, front office users, traders, quants, risk managers, and product control teams across various locations. Proactively identify operational risks and ensure compliance with firm policies.
  5. Coordinate with internal development teams and external vendors to resolve support issues, identify root causes, document processes, and implement preventative measures. Lead incident resolution, logging, problem review meetings, and action tracking.
  6. Provide regular updates on open issues, ensure quality standards for production systems, and facilitate software rollouts.
  7. Prepare for planned maintenance, disaster recovery exercises, and major rollouts. Offer expertise and guidance to team members and provide feedback for process improvements.
  8. Escalate operational risks, control deficiencies, and loss events to management and relevant risk functions timely.
  9. Ensure team members understand and support the bank’s vision and targeted behaviors. Establish individual goals, drive performance, support career development, and recognize achievements.
Must-Have Skills:
  • At least 3 years of IT experience, with a minimum of 2 years in the financial industry, specifically in capital markets or futures.
  • Strong knowledge of commodities and futures products and experience working with front office business users.
  • Experience in supporting large-scale production systems, end-of-day monitoring, root cause analysis, and problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of trading activities, market data feeds, and applications like Open Link and XTP is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with ITRS Geneos, CTRL-M job scheduler, Windows, Python programming, MQ, SOLACE, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Ability to analyze existing systems and collaborate with business and development teams for improvements.
  • Supporting applications (60%), user management (20%), and team/vendor management (20%).
  • Availability for some weekend work, disaster recovery tests, and support in a fast-paced trading environment with tight deadlines.
  • On-call support for end-of-day monitoring based on assigned shifts.
Nice-To-Have Skills:
  • Understanding of ITIL processes.
  • Knowledge of DevOps and cloud technologies.
  • Experience leading a global support team with onsite and offshore members.
  • Knowledge of business intelligence tools such as Tableau.
