Overview

Bayer CropScience is looking for a motivated Seed Production Research Assistant to help us with our indoor plant breeding operations for our Canola R&D program. This is a fantastic chance to work with cutting-edge technology and a talented team of R&D pros who are dedicated to creating the best Canola products out there.

Position

Position: Permanent, full-time

Location: 580 Berry St., Winnipeg, Manitoba

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Organizing and maintaining growth room projects day-to-day, including seeding, tissue sampling, transplanting, self & cross-pollinating, harvesting, and threshing.
  • Taking care of plants and ensuring the growth rooms are well-maintained.
  • Spotting and reporting any issues with the facility or plants, like pest or disease control needs.
  • Using herbicides or other chemicals under supervision, following our company policies.
  • Keeping detailed records, managing chemical applications, and hitting other technical goals efficiently.
  • Keeping the workplace tidy and organized.
  • Supervising and training temporary staff when needed.
  • Collaborating with other researchers to implement process improvements.
  • Helping collect data, create documents, and review processes related to your tasks.
  • Following all Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), Quality Management System (QMS), and Compliance programs at Bayer.
  • Pitching in on other projects and taking on extra duties as required.
Who You Are
  • You have a degree or diploma in agricultural/biological science or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • You’re comfortable with the physical aspects of watering and caring for plants and maintaining growth rooms.
  • You’re okay working in different temperature conditions, whether it’s cool or warm.
  • You can lift up to 30 lbs.
  • You’re available to work overtime during the week and on weekends when needed.
  • You have a strong eye for detail and can work accurately.
  • You’ve got excellent organizational skills and can prioritize tasks effectively.
  • You’re highly motivated and results-driven, whether working solo or as part of a team.
  • You’re adaptable and ready to learn new procedures.
  • You communicate well in English, both written and verbally.
  • You can explain complex ideas clearly and concisely.
  • You’re tech-savvy, especially with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Bonus Points If You Have
  • Previous experience in Canola and/or plant breeding.
  • Knowledge of crop production or growth room methods.
  • Experience in hybrid crop research and development.
  • Willingness to get a pesticide applicator license.
