Job Summary

Plans, schedules, and coordinates the activities throughout the manufacturing process within the manufacturing cell. Planning includes creating and managing work orders, managing queues and scheduling work, tactical expediting, ensuring materials are available when required, and determining that all production activities are in place to meet the expected completion and shipping dates.

Direct Accountabilities of Production Planner
  • Plans and maintains production schedules within the cell to meet daily and future production and service requirements.
  • Generates work orders and creates traveler packages including all necessary documents required to support manufacturing operations.
  • Manages and provides status updates on cell orders, including expected completion dates.
  • Problem solves, provides guidance, and handles exceptions.
  • Inform the Production Controllers of exceptions as necessary.
  • Liaisons with Procurement, Supply Chain, and other manufacturing cells to ensure materials, components and supplies are available to meet scheduled production.
  • Expedites rush orders, revising schedules to offset delays caused by manufacturing problems.
  • Identifies, evaluates, and presents to management the issues related to expediting orders and/or recovering schedule i.e., overtime and other related costs.
  • Coordinating with Procurement and Supply Chain to ensure proper management of sub-contracted services as required.
Indirect Accountabilities
  • Participates in Cell meetings, discussing new projects, shop floor scheduling, and current issues regarding all aspects of the manufacturing cell performance.
  • Participates with the Management Team to plan and establish overall production objectives, considering existing workload, orders, stock, parts requirements, shipping dates, and sales forecasts.
  • Introduces new ideas for improved performance in all areas of production.
  • Works with other employees at all levels and within all departments to resolve daily problems.
Education required
  • 2+ years planning, scheduling, or otherwise administrating in a manufacturing environment, preferred.
  • Communication skills must be sufficient to adequately convey detailed technical information in an English-speaking work environment.
  • Computer skills to competently interact with an ERP system, manage Microsoft Excel worksheets, draft formal emails, digitally sign-off documents, and prepare Microsoft PowerPoint presentations.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings is preferred.
