Job summary

Islands West Produce in Victoria, BC is seeking a Production Line Operator to join our team. You'll set up, operate, monitor, and complete production runs on our lines and equipment used for fresh-cut fruits and vegetables.

The role emphasizes food safety, HACCP, sanitation, and maintaining clean, safe work areas while supporting a team. Applicants should have at least 1 year of related experience and solid mechanical aptitude.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

Islands West Produce is seeking a reliable and experienced Production Line Operator to join our production team. This role is responsible for independently setting up, operating, monitoring, and completing production runs on assigned production lines and equipment used in the manufacturing of fresh-cut fruit and vegetable products. The Production Line Operator plays a key role in maintaining production efficiency, product quality, food safety standards, and workplace safety while supporting a team-oriented production.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Set up, operate, and monitor production lines and equipment, including dicers, cutters, slicers, shredders, wash systems, and packaging equipment.
• Verify product specifications, equipment, packaging, and materials before each production run.
• Monitor line performance and make routine adjustments to maintain safe, consistent, and efficient production.
• Ensure product quality standards are met, including cut size, appearance, quality, and packaging requirements.
• Troubleshoot routine production and equipment issues, escalating concerns as needed while minimizing downtime and waste.
• Perform product changeovers, cleaning, and sanitation procedures, and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Follow all food safety, HACCP, sanitation, equipment safety, and workplace safety procedures.
• Complete required production, quality, food safety, and equipment documentation accurately and on time.
• Communicate production status, quality concerns, and equipment issues to the Lead Hand or Supervisor.
• Support Production Line Workers with equipment operation and work procedures, and assist with training new employees.
• Perform other production duties as directed by Production Management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

(Minimum acceptable qualifications, experience & personal qualities required by the job holder)

• Previous production, food manufacturing, processing, packaging, kitchen or comparable equipment-operating experience; one year of related experience is preferred.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to learn and safely operate production equipment.
• Ability to independently follow production specifications, work instructions and established operating procedures.
• Ability to identify basic equipment, product-quality and workflow issues and take appropriate action within established procedures.
• Good verbal and written communication skills (English).
• Demonstrated reliability, attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Hepatitis A Vaccination (Islands West to provide).
• Ability to safely bend, twist and lift up to 50 lbs. on a consistent basis.
• Ability to walk and stand for the duration of scheduled shift.
• Ability to learn and apply knife skills.
• Ability to work in a refrigerated environment.
