Job summary

Strescon Limited in Bedford, Nova Scotia, is seeking a Lead Hand to join the Bedford Precast Plant. You will provide daily leadership to production crews, support safety, and help meet production targets while working closely with multiple teams to ensure quality standards are met.

The role requires experience in a manufacturing or precast environment, strong communication, and the ability to read shop drawings. A hands-on leader who can train and mentor others is essential for success.

Qualifications

Established in 1963, Strescon Limited has grown to become the largest precast pre‑stressed concrete manufacturer in Eastern Canada. The primary market covers the Atlantic Provinces, the New England region of the United States, and Bermuda. Strescon manufactures a wide range of both architectural and structural precast/prestressed concrete products; including, bridge girders, wall panels, complete parking garages, hollow-core planking, piling and deck slabs. Strescon presently has two facilities: 70,000 sq.ft. in Saint John, New Brunswick and 50,000 sq.ft. in Bedford, Nova Scotia.

In addition to our precast facilities, Strescon opened a state of the art, 32,000 sq. ft. pipe plant in 2001, manufacturing concrete products for engineered drainage systems, such as pipe, manholes and catchbasins.

We are seeking a Lead Hand to join our Bedford Precast Plant team. This will be a Working Team Lead role as they will be working alongside the crews to complete the tasks. Reporting to the Plant Superintendent, the Lead Hand is responsible for providing daily leadership, direction, and support to production employees while actively participating in plant operations. This role is critical to ensuring a safe, productive, and quality-focused work environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate daily activities of production crews to meet manufacturing schedules and deadlines.


• Promote and uphold a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with all company safety policies, procedures, and regulations.


• Assign work, monitor progress, and support employees in achieving production targets.


• Work alongside crews in plant to complete tasks including concrete finishing, setting up forms, cleaning forms and other tasks required.


• Provide hands‑on training, coaching, and mentorship to team members.


• Ensure products are manufactured in accordance with quality standards, specifications, and customer requirements.


• Communicate production priorities and operational updates to crew members and supervisors.


• Assist in troubleshooting production challenges and implementing corrective actions.


• Monitor material usage, equipment performance, and workforce productivity.


• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.


• Collaborate with Production, Quality Control, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to improve operational efficiency.


• Support continuous improvement initiatives and identify opportunities to enhance productivity and quality.

Requirements

• Must have own transportation, no public transportation available


• Good attendance and a positive attitude


• Experience in a manufacturing, construction, industrial, or precast concrete environment.


• Previous leadership experience as a Lead Hand, Team Lead, Foreperson, or Supervisor is preferred.


• Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.


• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.


• Ability to lead by example and foster a collaborative team environment.


• Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, production schedules, and work instructions is considered an asset.


• Experience operating forklifts, overhead cranes, or other industrial equipment is considered an asset.


• Mechanical aptitude and understanding of precast concrete manufacturing processes are considered assets.


• Ability to perform physically demanding work in an industrial setting.
