Position Overview

Reporting to the Sr Mine Engineer, the Production Geologist role falls within the Mine Technical Services department at the Ekati Mine Site. The role provides geological support for both the Open Pit and Underground Operations and the corporate exploration team. You will work a 2-weeks on 2-weeks off rotation. Although this role has no direct reports, you will lead cross-functional workstreams, drive consensus on geology topics and assist where required with managing ongoing exploration programs.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  1. Attend daily Mine Ops morning planning meeting
  2. Attend daily process plant meeting
  3. Complete daily Ore Management Plan (blending, hauling, and stockpiling strategy)
  4. Inspect stockpiles/sort rows regularly for tonnage estimation adjustments, waste/ore source contamination, and oversized material.
  5. Consult with UG and Open Pit Mine ops as needed for any geological concerns (mapping, hauling, ore storage areas, grade control)
  6. Consult with process plant as needed for dilution/grade concerns, sampling, and planning purposes
  7. Inspect drill cuttings on blast patterns to delineate ore/waste contacts
  8. Mark pit wall contacts with survey to delineate ore/waste contacts
  9. Assist shovel operators as needed to improve grade control when mine along contacts.
  10. Transfer surface and underground field mapping data to Vulcan to continuously update the geology model
  11. Track all kimberlite material movement in stockpile tracking spreadsheets
  12. Determine and record daily feed source splits and carat production.
  13. Inspect UG draw points for dilution + kimberlite quality
  14. Inspect UG development for contacts + kimberlite quality
  15. Design probe hole and diamond drill programs/ad hoc test holes to delineate contacts UG
  16. Query block model and advanced reserve editor for specific grade data
  17. Collect and log cuttings from UG test holes
  18. Collect moisture samples weekly
  19. Collect density samples
  20. Help organize bulk sample main plant trials for grade analysis.
  21. Prepare and present information for Surface and UG week plan meetings
  22. Prepare stockpile, plant feed and carat production data for 12-week plan
  23. Complete month end reconciliation for tonnes mined, stockpile volumes, plant feed, and carat production for finance
  24. Update year end compilation data monthly
  25. Update and submit waste rock totals to environment monthly
  26. Complete Diamond Cycle report for finance and management
  27. Support exploration drilling programs (Site inspections, sample retrieval/prep/logging, driller support)
  28. Create and maintain work instructions

Education/Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree or higher in geology, or a related field.
  2. Registration or ability to register as a P. Geo or GIT with NAPEG.
  3. Experience with geological modeling software (Vulcan, Leapfrog, MXDeposit)
  4. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present complex data.
  5. Excellent understanding of geological mapping and ore deposit evaluation techniques.
  6. Previous underground experience and core logging is an asset.
  7. Knowledge of statistical analysis, machine learning techniques, and data mining algorithms.
  8. Familiarity with mining operations, including drilling, blasting, hauling, and processing.
  9. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  10. Effective communication and collaboration skills to interact with diverse stakeholders.
  11. Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
