Job description

Founded in 2015, Modular Solutions delivers innovative technology to the insurance industry. Our modular, fully integrated platform enables insurers, mutuals, MGAs and brokers with programs with the ability to manage their entire operations seamlessly through a single software solution. Designed to be affordable and configurable, our platform empowers businesses to innovate, adapt and thrive in an evolving and competitive market.

Position Summary

Modular Solutions is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Product Owner to contribute to the ongoing enhancement of our insurance platform. This role is responsible for gathering and refining business requirements, managing the product backlog, and working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality product features.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of insurance operations, paired with experience in agile product delivery. You will play a key role in bridging the gap between stakeholders and development teams, ensuring that business needs are clearly defined, prioritized, and executed effectively. Your ability to balance technical considerations with client objectives will be essential in supporting Modulars mission to deliver reliable and innovative insurance solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a subject matter expert to support developers and key stakeholders.
  • Translate business and customer needs into clear, actionable product requirements and user stories.
  • Own and manage the product backlog, balancing technical enhancements, client needs, and strategic priorities.
  • Serve as the bridge between stakeholders and development teams to support the delivery of high-quality, iterative releases.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to define workflows, document acceptance criteria, and support the configuration of scalable product features.
  • Participate in sprint planning, backlog grooming, and other agile ceremonies to maintain alignment and team momentum.
  • Conduct user acceptance testing (UAT) and assist with product demos and training for internal and external users.
  • Ensure quality, performance, and usability standards are upheld in each release, minimizing client disruption and maximizing platform stability.
  • Analyze user feedback and product performance data to inform future iterations and product direction.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in both insurance operations and SaaS product delivery.
  • Champion continuous improvement across product processes, tools, and collaboration models.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and dependencies clearly and proactively to team members and project leads.
  • Learn and use all internal technology systems as defined by Modular Solutions Inc.
  • Other duties as required and requested by Modular Solutions Inc.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in the insurance industry, ideally in roles such as Broker, Underwriter, Business Analyst, or Product Implementation.
  • Proven experience in a Product Owner or equivalent role within a software development or insurance-focused organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate insurance product guidelines and underwriting rules into clear, actionable requirements and user stories.
  • Strong knowledge of insurance operations and workflows, including broker, underwriter, and policy administration processes.
  • Ability to model / document requirements, user flows, use cases, and configuration logic.
  • Solid technical understanding of systems architecture, data flows, APIs, and application logic.
  • Familiarity with policy administration systems, insurance SaaS platforms, or other configurable technology solutions.
  • Proficient in tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira, and Miro, or other platforms used for backlog management and sprint planning in agile environments.
  • Experience facilitating user acceptance testing (UAT) and supporting product validation activities.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to bridge technical and business perspectives.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, especially when evaluating complex rating logic or insurance documentation.
  • Detail-oriented with a high standard for quality, accuracy, and release readiness.
  • Comfortable working independently in a remote, cross-functional team environment.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban), with hands-on experience in sprint planning and backlog grooming.
  • Understanding of change management principles and their role in successful product adoption and release.
