What will you do at Ciena?

The engineering team is looking for an experienced product integrity compliance engineer. The successful candidate will be part of a product integrity team responsible for global regulatory and commercial compliance on leading-edge packet optical transport and switching products.

Responsibilities

Under the guidance of senior compliance specialists, work closely with product development teams to define regulatory and commercial test requirements, develop and manage compliance programs, advise on product compliance derisk activities, and recommend test requirements for customer lab engagements. This includes design, documentation, and marking requirements to ensure regulatory and commercial conformance.

General Activities
  • Assist EMC engineers and collaborate with design primes to define early architectural requirements for new products and platforms, focusing on EMC, safety, and homologation.
  • Coordinate with product development teams to scope and plan test programs demonstrating compliance with applicable EMC, safety, and commercial standards.
  • Work with test partners during compliance testing to demonstrate adherence and obtain reports and certifications.
  • Support sales and field teams with customer issues related to non-compliance, bid proposals, responses, and conformity assessments.
  • Assist global account teams with product homologation activities.
Collaboration with Stakeholders
  • Design teams – electrical, mechanical, thermal, industrial design
  • Account and system engineering teams supporting customers
  • External test facilities and EMC/safety experts
  • Finance teams for budget management
Experience

Minimum of 10 years experience with global/international EMC standards, product safety standards, and commercial standards in the telecom networking space.

Required knowledge includes:

  • Global/international EMC standards in ITE and Telecom Networking: CISPR 32 / EN 55032, CISPR 35 / EN 55035, CISPR 24 / EN 55024, FCC Part 15, ICES-003, ETSI EN 300 386, IEC / EN 61000-X-Y

Preferred knowledge includes:

  • ITE product safety standards: IEC / UL / EN 60950-1, IEC / EN 60825-1, IEC / EN 60825-2, IEC / EN 62368-1
  • Country approvals, regulatory marks, and homologation processes.
  • Familiarity with telecom standards such as Telcordia GR-63-CORE, GR-1089-CORE, GR-3108, GR-487, ETSI EN 300 019-X-Y, EN 300 132-Y.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills are essential. Familiarity with communication protocols (OTN, Ethernet, SONET, Fiber Channel) is preferred.
