In this position, you will be the primary customer interface in leading product design and development for body structures & battery housing projects. Key responsibilities may include creating and modifying 3D models and 2D drawings for BIW components (e.g., battery housing, bumper assembly, side structures) using CAD tools (CATIA, NX), or optimizing an initial product design to improve manufacturability, reduce cost, and shorten time to market. Your daily duties involve attending customer PDT meetings, keeping track of design open issues, managing engineering change and creating DFMEA, DVP&R and GD&T.

Though not a supervisory position, the Product Engineer will provide professional engineering assistance and consultation to other engineers, and departments on technical matters for body structure product. This candidate will need to be able to work in a multinational, multicultural global setting.

Core responsibilities
  • Work with OEM technical team in the development of structural products to ensure the product meets all requirements of the customer SOR/specifications, manufacturability, and quality objectives.
  • Create and modify 3D models and 2D drawings for BIW components (e.g., floor pans, pillars, roof, side structures) using CAD tools (CATIA, NX).
  • Ensure the body meets performance, safety (crash), durability, and NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) targets.
  • Select materials (high-strength steels, aluminum) and design for stamping, welding, assembly, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Analyze the product assembly chain, evaluate tolerance stack‑up effects among components, optimize tolerance allocation, and prevent assembly interference or functional failures caused by accumulated tolerances.
  • Prepare necessary technical documentation and work with manufacturing, tooling, stamping, closures, and quality teams to ensure designs are feasible and production‑ready.
  • Perform feasibility checks, interface reviews, and support validation (DVP&R, DFMEA).
  • Troubleshoot issues during prototype builds and production related to water leaks, corrosion, fit, and function.
To qualify for this role you must meet the following
  • Bachelor degree or above, mechanical, engineering and material relevant
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive product design and development of automotive Body structure and battery enclosures
  • Experience in aluminum material or aluminum structure product design will be a plus.
  • Experience in Steel material or Roll forming/stamping high strength steel structure product design will be a plus.
  • Experience in one or more processes, such as Aluminum Extrusion, Stamping, Welding (CMT, FSW, Laser), Riveting or other new process.
Key to being successful in this role
  • In‑depth knowledge of ASME Y14.5M-2009.
  • Creative, constructive, and positive approach to problem‑solving.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with technical proficiency.
