Job summary

MATTR in Vaughan, Ontario, is seeking a Product Development Technologist to advance Shawflex’s product engineering initiatives. You will transform requirements into practical, manufacturable solutions while supporting customers, operations, and quality teams.

You will deliver technical solutions, drive projects to completion, and uphold high standards of performance and compliance across assigned product families, with emphasis on run-to-order and engineered-to-order offerings.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a 3-year college diploma in a technical discipline.
  • 3–5 years of relevant technical experience in manufacturing or engineering.
  • Hands-on manufacturing or shop-floor exposure.
  • Strong documentation, analysis and communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical requirements for product configuration.
  • Experience supporting testing, trials, non-conformances and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering projects, investigations, non-conformance reviews and progress reporting.
  • Develop run-to-order and engineered-to-order product knowledge for configuration support.
  • Interpret requirements and collaborate across functions for manufacturable solutions.
  • Support product enhancements, trials, testing, approvals and compliance activities.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Operations, Quality and Engineering to resolve issues.
  • Participate in continuous improvement to enhance quality and efficiency.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, reports and change records.
  • Coordinate with external regulatory bodies for reviews and certifications.
  • Influence project outcomes without direct people management.
  • Support shop-floor activities and ensure safety procedures are followed.

Summary

As a Product Development Technologist, you will play a key role in advancing Shawflex's product engineering and development initiatives by building expertise in assigned cable and product families. Your contributions will help ensure product requirements are transformed into practical, manufacturable solutions while supporting customers, operations, quality, and commercial teams. Success in this role means delivering accurate technical solutions, driving engineering projects to completion, and helping maintain the highest standards of product performance, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate assigned engineering projects, technical investigations, non-conformance reviews, compliance activities, project plans, timelines, deliverables, and status reporting.
  • Develop technical expertise in run-to-order and engineered-to-order products to support product configuration and respond effectively to customer and internal technical inquiries.
  • Interpret technical requirements and collaborate across functions to deliver practical, manufacturable engineering solutions.
  • Support product enhancement initiatives, engineering trials, testing programs, product approvals, certifications, and standards compliance activities.
  • Work closely with Sales, Business Development, Operations, Production, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality teams to resolve technical challenges and improve product performance.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives that enhance product quality, manufacturability, and operational efficiency.
  • Create, maintain, and update engineering documentation, technical reports, engineering change records, monthly reports, and stakeholder communications.
  • Collaborate with customers and external regulatory, testing and certification organizations to support technical reviews, approvals, and compliance requirements.
  • Influence project outcomes and drive cross-functional deliverables without direct people management responsibility.
  • Support shop-floor activities, production observations, engineering trials, and issue resolution while following all applicable safety procedures.
Qualifications
Required
  • College Diploma (3-year program) in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or a related technical discipline.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant technical experience.
  • Hands-on manufacturing or shop-floor experience.
  • Strong technical documentation, engineering analysis, project coordination, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical requirements and support product configuration activities.
  • Experience supporting testing programs, engineering trials, non-conformance investigations, and compliance-related activities.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver accurate results.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Preferred
  • University degree in a related technical discipline.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant experience.
  • P.Eng., CET, or equivalent technical designation.
  • Experience with cable design and manufacturing, extrusion, polymers, electrical calculations, or product certification activities.
  • Knowledge of CSA, UL, ICEA, NEC, and CEC standards and requirements.
  • Experience supporting product approvals, certifications, standards development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to develop deep technical expertise and serve as a trusted resource across assigned product lines.

The Salary Range for this position is from $72,000 to $80,000 CAD. The provided range represents the anticipated base salary and target incentive for this position. The final total compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate’s skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.
