Job description

Are you actively looking for a new opportunity? Or just checking the market? Well… you might just be in the right place!

Lightspeed is seeking a Product Design Manager to join the Retail team leading the experience for its Inventory Management and Sales Insights teams. This team creates actionable insights that help retailers manage their inventory levels and identify new sales trends. Working across products and customer touch points, these designers leverage established and emerging design systems to take the boring out of business. The experiences they create help retail buyers simplify how they set up our products, showcase their merchandise, and manage their orders.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Problem Solving: Understand business objectives to solve highly abstract problems and uncover unidentified ones. Connect and lead teams in executing solutions end-to-end. Apply strategic thinking not just in execution but to shape how teams approach new problems.
  • Driving User-Centricity: Make and communicate comprehensive design strategies based on quantitative and qualitative data and work in partnership with product managers to lead the problem definition. Facilitate journey mapping and introduce design thinking methods to influence cross-functional teams and advocate for the user.
  • Embedding Systems Thinking: Lead a team in defining discovery existing system libraries as well as evolving components for user and industry relevancy. Create prototypes or support the team to do so. Develop a masterful understanding of design system principles (and the current state of design within the industry) within your team.
  • Coaching and Management: Oversee the completion of projects, establish processes to improve efficiency, nurture key relationships within the company, and provide mentorship to your team. Supervise contributors on projects and manage the workload and backlog across the team. Ensure that each designer in your team has a plan to grow and meet their potential and support them in the challenges they face. Hold a high-bar for quality and craft, and hold themselves accountable for shared outcomes.

You may be asked to contribute as part of the wider Lightspeed team to achieve organizational objectives even if this means doing things that aren’t strictly within the scope of your role!

What you need to bring:

  • 2+ years of industry experience in a people management role on a Design team, experience in matrix organizations a plus.
  • Foundational design-related education (Bachelor of Design, or Visual Arts, or Architecture, or Industrial Design, or Communication)
  • An acute self-awareness and deep empathy - for both the customer and your team’s goals.
  • A tenured, evolutionary perspective on technology, product, and design practices.
  • Applied experience with service design practices and a practice of constantly evolving your design process.
  • An appetite (and the skill) for working across all digital and physical manifestations of what we design.
  • A passion for mentoring executives, product managers, and engineers to deliver user-centered solutions.
  • Excellent communication and data visualization skills. You can bring internal stakeholders on your design journey and support your decisions with focus and brevity.
  • A deep curiosity and ability to consider product strategy and vision.
  • Experience with Agile design sprint methodologies, tools, and processes as well as with the Jira platform.
  • Fluency with product, design, and prototyping tools such as Figma, Google Suite, Miro.
