Job description

Hi there! Thanks for stopping by

Are you actively looking for a new opportunity? Or just checking the market? Well... you might just be in the right place!

Lightspeed is looking for a Product Design Manager to join our FOH Hospitality team in Toronto, Ontario. In this role, you will lead your product design team in creating intuitive, impactful user experiences that restaurant operators find both valuable and enjoyable to use. You’ll also play a key role in nurturing the growth of your team—providing mentorship, fostering collaboration, and supporting their development as high-performing, user-centered designers.

What You’ll be responsible for:

  • Problem Solving
    • Understand business objectives to solve highly abstract problems and uncover unidentified ones.
    • Connect and lead teams in executing solutions end-to-end.
    • Apply strategic thinking not just in execution but to shape how teams approach new problems.
  • Coaching and Management
    • Oversee the completion of projects, establish processes to improve efficiency, nurture key relationships within the company, and provide mentorship to your team.
    • Supervises contributors on projects and manages the workload and backlog across the team.
    • Ensure that each designer in your team has a plan to grow and meet their potential and support them in the challenges they face.
  • Driving User-Centricity
    • Make and communicate comprehensive design strategies based on quantitative and qualitative data and work in partnership with product managers to lead the problem definition.
    • Facilitates journey mapping and mental model exercises.
  • Systems Thinking
    • Develop a masterful understanding of design system principles (and the current state of design within the industry) within your team.
    • Lead a team in defining discovery components and evolving and elevating the design system.
  • Prototyping
    • Create prototypes or support the team to do so.
    • Develop an excellent understanding of the current tooling within the team, and provide guidance to other designers on technical capabilities and constraints.

You may be asked to contribute as part of the wider Lightspeed team to achieve organizational objectives even if this means doing things that aren’t strictly within the scope of your role!

What you need to bring:

We're looking for a candidate who has experience with the following:

  • 1-2 years of industry experience in a people management role on a Design team, experience in matrix organizations a plus.
  • A design-thinking education (Bachelor of Design, or Visual Arts, or Architecture, or Industrial Design, or Communication)
  • An acute self-awareness and deep empathy - for both the customer and your team’s goals.
  • A tenured, evolutionary perspective on technology, product, and design practices
  • Applied experience with service design practices and a practice of constantly evolving your design process
  • An appetite (and the skill) for working across all digital and physical manifestations of what we design.
  • A passion for mentoring executives, product managers, and engineers to deliver user-centered solutions.
  • Excellent communication and data visualization skills. You can bring internal stakeholders on your design journey and support your decisions with focus and brevity.
  • A deep curiosity and ability to consider product strategy and vision. You don’t just care about “how it looks,” or “what we should design,” but “why are we designing this at all?”
  • Experience design sprint methodologies, tools, and processes.
  • Fluency with product, design, and prototyping tools such as Figma, Google Suite, Miro, and JIRA.

The tools you will use in our team are: Figma Enterprise, Miro and familiarity with UXR tooling (ie: Usertesting, Dovetail, Maze, Fullstory).

We know that people are more than what’s on their CV. If you’re unsure that you have the right profile for the role... hit the ‘Apply’ button and give it a try!
