Job description

The Mission

Munich-based OroraTech is developing a constellation of nano-satellites equipped with thermal infrared cameras for automated wildfire detection, severe weather warnings, and various other applications. The company builds and integrates their own infrared payloads and satellite platforms, with currently 10 active satellites in orbit.

Following this path, we are seeking talented engineers to ramp up our Canadian office. Your responsibilities include product assurance for our in-house developed infrared payloads. You will join a highly motivated and enthusiastic team of experts in mechanical, optical, electronic, aerospace, and software engineering.

What you’ll be doing
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Product Assurance Implementation Plan (PAIP) and Software PAIP (SPAIP), in accordance with CSA requirements.

  • Maintain and enforce a QA system compliant with ISO and CSA requirements to support hardware and software lifecycle.

  • Serve as the designated independent Product Assurance authority.

  • Maintain independence from the design and development teams, with full authority to approve or reject processes and products affecting mission assurance.

  • Support CSA audits, reviews, and milestone gates.

  • Identify and analyze safety risks, prepare Hazard Reports, and ensure compliance with FMEA and Critical Item List (CIL) requirements.

  • Monitor mitigation strategies, perform residual risk assessment, and present findings at design reviews.

  • Monitor and ensure flowdown of PA/QA requirements to lower-tier suppliers.

  • Review subcontractor PA plans and reports, and support source inspections as needed.

  • Maintain traceability of all product assurance tasks and records through the PAIP and associated configuration systems.

  • Support development of the Acceptance Data Package, Problem Reporting System, and GIDEP alerts processing.

Participate in verification planning, test readiness reviews (TRR), and audits.

Relevant Skills
  • Technical degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field, or comparable qualification.

  • 3+ years in space product assurance, particularly on small satellite missions and/or optical payloads.

  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and communicate across different engineering domains and aligning with the teams in Munich.

  • Strong knowledge of CSA/NASA safety and mission assurance standards (e.g., SSP 50062, CSA-SMA-RD-0008).

  • Experience with hazard analysis, FMEA, CIL, and risk management processes.

  • Familiarity with reliability, maintainability, and quality assurance practices for space systems.

Proficient in non-conformance handling, audit preparation, and quality control systems.
