Job summary

Global Toronto, part of Corus Entertainment, is seeking a Full-Time Producer to join the team. Reporting to the Executive Producer Multi-Market Content & OTT, you will shape marquee local news programs with a multi-platform approach and strong editorial judgment.

Qualifications

• University degree or equivalent in a broadcast-related field.
• Strong editorial judgment and the ability to respond quickly to breaking news.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in television broadcasting, preferably in a major market.
• Strong news writing skills and excellent news judgment.
• Exemplary leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines with creativity.
• Ability to work well in a team and maintain editorial standards.
• Comprehensive knowledge of lineup management systems and editing programs.

Responsibilities

• Assisting in determining the look, style, and format of the show and stories, based on established criteria.
• Working with reporters to shape stories and story elements.
• Writing stories, teases and headlines, and vetting scripts.
• Producing interview segments, including setup, focus, questions, and visual elements.
• Pitching and producing original and compelling content for Global News Toronto.
• Collaborating with the editorial team to maintain Global News standards.
• Planning, selecting, and requesting production and resource elements.
• Co-ordinating coverage with affiliates and other Global News departments.
• Maintaining strong editorial judgement and producing special events and breaking news coverage.
• Occasionally taking live programs to air in a control room setting.

About the Role

Global Toronto is currently looking for a Full-Time Producer to join their team. Reporting to the Executive Producer Multi-Market Content & OTT, the successful candidate will be an experienced and creative producer, who is passionate about news. A journalist who understands what it takes to create smart, innovative, and impactful live programming, and approaches it from a multi-platform view. Your role will help shape our marquee local news programs. This is a Group 3 position under the current collective agreement.

You will contribute by

• Assisting in determining the look, style, and format of the show and stories, based on established criteria and values.
• Working with reporters to shape stories and story elements.
• Writing stories, teases and headlines, and vetting scripts.
• Producing interview segments, including the set-up, focus, questions, and visual elements.
• Pitching and producing original and compelling content for Global News Toronto.
• Having the ability to be a strong team player on the editorial team.
• Working with fellow producers and writers to maintain Global News editorial standards.
• Planning, selecting, and requesting production and resource elements.
• Working with affiliates and other Global News departments to co-ordinate coverage and resources.
• Displaying strong editorial judgement.
• Planning and producing special events and breaking news coverage.
• Occasionally taking live programs to air in a control room setting, in a calm and decisive manner.
• Performing other duties as required.

Skills and experience you will bring

• A university degree or equivalent post-secondary education in a broadcast-related field.
• The ability to respond quickly and knowledgeably to breaking news. Strong editorial judgment.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in television broadcasting, preferably in a major market.
• Strong news writing skills and excellent news judgement.
• Exemplary leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and maintain creativity in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment.
