Job summary

Calgary Co-op is seeking a Produce Utility Clerk to join our store team in Calgary. You will provide excellent customer service, maintain displays, stock shelves, and support inventory control in a fast-paced retail environment.

The role requires Grade 9 or equivalent and related retail experience. Fluency in English is preferred, with responsibilities including receiving merchandise, counter setup, and product knowledge. We offer competitive wages and opportunities for training and development.

  • Related retail experience, including the provision of customer service.

  • Experience with receiving, counter set-up and product knowledge.
  • Knowledge of ordering merchandise and supplies, and related procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provides customer service and maintains positive customer relations through the proper handling of customer questions, comments, requests and complaints.
  • Performs all aspects of the Produce Utility function including but not limited to culling, stocking, displays and facing in an efficient and organized manner.
  • Handles merchandise ensuring quality, minimizing damages and markdowns. Provides substitutions and ensures price integrity including price changes.
  • Performs general cleanup duties such as cleaning spills and display fixtures to ensure neat and organized department.
  • Performs duties following established Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Environmental regulations and policies to ensure the health and safety of all staff and customers.
  • Is responsible for all aspects of ordering merchandise and supplies and for receiving including reviewing invoices, returns, transfers, claims and proper storage of products.

Responsibilities

The Produce Utility Clerk is responsible for ensuring customer service is provided through maintaining a safe and efficient operation while adhering to company policies, procedures and standards. The position reports directly to the Produce Supervisor/Produce Manager. The main responsibilities include:

  • Provides customer service and maintains positive customer relations through the proper handling of customer questions, comments, requests and complaints. Effectively works in a diverse team environment in a proficient and friendly manner.
  • Performs all aspects of the Produce Utility function including but not limited to culling, stocking, displays and facing in an efficient and organized manner. Ensures display presentation and stock levels are maintained.
  • Handles merchandise ensuring quality, minimizing damages and markdowns. Provides substitutions and ensures price integrity including price changes.
  • Performs general cleanup duties such as cleaning spills and display fixtures to ensure neat and organized department. Responsible for keeping the sales floor and back‑stock area clean from cardboard and debris, as well as disposal of garbage.
  • Performs duties following established Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Environmental regulations and policies to ensure the health and safety of all staff and customers.
  • Ensures the proper care, use and maintenance of equipment and tools. Reports repair requirements to the Produce Supervisor, Produce or Duty Manager.
  • Is responsible for all aspects of ordering merchandise and supplies.
  • Is responsible for all aspects of receiving including reviewing and verifying invoices, returns, transfers, claims and proper storage of products.
  • Assists in organizing and conducting inventory.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Grade 9 or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Related retail experience, including the provision of customer service.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
  • Must be fluent in English.
  • Experience with receiving, counter set‑up and product knowledge.
  • Knowledge of ordering merchandise and supplies, and related procedures.
