The Produce Utility Clerk is responsible for ensuring customer service through maintaining a safe and efficient operation while adhering to Company policies, procedures, and standards. The position reports directly to the Produce Supervisor / Produce Manager, and the main responsibilities include:

  1. Providing customer service and maintaining positive customer relations through proper handling of questions, comments, requests, and complaints. Working effectively in a diverse team environment in a friendly manner.
  2. Performing all aspects of the Produce Utility function, including culling, stocking, displays, and facing in an organized manner. Ensuring display presentation and stock levels are maintained.
  3. Handling merchandise to ensure quality, minimize damages and markdowns, providing substitutions, and maintaining price integrity including price changes.
  4. Performing general cleanup duties such as cleaning spills and display fixtures to keep the department neat and organized. Responsible for keeping the sales floor and back stock area clean from cardboard and debris, and disposing of garbage.
  5. Following established Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Environmental regulations and policies to ensure the health and safety of staff and customers.
  6. Ensuring proper care, use, and maintenance of equipment and tools, and reporting repair needs to the Produce Supervisor, Produce, or Duty Manager.
  7. Managing all aspects of ordering merchandise and supplies.
  8. Handling all aspects of receiving, including reviewing/verifying invoices, returns, transfers, claims, and proper storage of products.
  9. Assisting in organizing and conducting inventory.

Skills and abilities required to be considered:

  • Grade 9 or acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Related retail experience, including customer service.

  • Fluency in English.
  • Experience with receiving, counter setup, and product knowledge.
  • Knowledge of ordering merchandise and supplies, and related procedures.
