Job description

Outpost Packaging Products is a distributor of packaging products in Central Ontario serving both industrial and food service businesses since 1977. The office and 10,000 square foot warehouse are located outside of Hastings. Orders are processed from start to finish including delivery by our friendly and competent staff from Scarborough to Kingston, and more. We’re currently looking for a Procurement Specialist to join our team and help support our continued growth and supply chain excellence.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Procurement Specialist is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and coordinating the delivery of packaging materials and related products. This role plays a critical part in maintaining strong vendor partnerships, ensuring timely inventory replenishment, and supporting efficient logistics to meet customer demands.

Responsibilities

· Source and purchase packaging products, materials, and supplies in a timely and cost-effective manner.

· Coordinate and manage the procurement process by matching and verifying purchase orders, vendor confirmations, packing slips, and invoices to ensure accuracy in pricing, product details, and order fulfillment.

· Liaise with vendors for order updates, arrange transportation for pickups, and track backordered items to maintain timely and accurate inventory flow.

· Maintain and build strong relationships with vendors and suppliers.

· Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with the warehouse team to ensure stock availability.

· Resolve issues related to delivery delays, quality, or discrepancies.

· Analyze purchasing data and trends to identify cost-saving opportunities.

· Collaborate with the sales and operations teams to forecast demand and ensure product availability.

· Manage purchase orders, invoices, and procurement documentation accurately in ERP or inventory systems.

· Stay informed on market trends, new products, and supply chain best practices relevant to the packaging industry.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

ReQUIREMENTS

· Minimum 3 years of experience in procurement, supply chain, or logistics—preferably in a distribution or packaging-related industry.

· Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, or a related field preferred,

· Strong understanding of vendor relations, sourcing, and supply chain logistics.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with inventory management or ERP systems.

· Excellent negotiation and communication skills.

· Detail-oriented, organized, analytical mindset with the ability to make data-driven decisions, and strong organizational and time management skills.

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

· Knowledge of packaging materials supply chains is an asset.
