Anglian Water is recruiting a Procurement Manager to shape strategic sourcing for Programme Development and manage a portfolio that maximises value for the business and its customers.

You will lead complex negotiations, work with internal and external stakeholders, and drive supply chain initiatives to enhance resilience against climate change while supporting Anglian Water’s environmental and social goals. This role offers hybrid working arrangements.

Qualifications

• Degree-level education with professional procurement qualification (CIPS) or working towards it.
• Proven experience leading teams and coaching others.
• Strong commercial acumen with ability to influence stakeholders at multiple levels.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Experience in bid assessment and knowledge of public procurement regulations.
• Ability to manage a varied portfolio with strong organisation.

Responsibilities

As our Procurement Manager you’ll be working closely with the Commercial Procurement Leadership Team and across the wider business in the development and delivery of the Supply Chain and Procurement Strategy. We have ambitious plans for significant investments in our region, with this role enabling a key part of that strategy. Your role will be to lead in shaping our strategic sourcing initiatives in the key area of Programme Development, helping to develop project upgrades to infrastructure and improve resilience against climate change . Typical schemes include the development of an Advanced Water Recycling Centre (AWRC) and two Desalination schemes which were included in the 2024 Water Resources Management Plan (WRMP24). This is your chance to make a significant impact by delivering commercially astute agreements that enable the business to deliver high-quality outcomes for our customers and the environment. In this dynamic role, you will harness your strategic thinking and exceptional influencing skills to engage with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, build and maintain strong market relationships to drive strategic outcomes, all while deepening your understanding of market dynamics and business demands. You will use your extensive procurement experience to develop and manage a strategic portfolio that maximises value for money for the business. You will spearhead category plans, lead on complex commercial negotiations, and ensure that our processes are efficient and auditable. Working as part of a team, you will identify opportunities and through improved working practices with our supply chain partners you will identify spend trends, manage sustainable procurement risks, and negotiate spot buys to meet our evolving business needs. We’re looking for someone who enjoys getting the best from people. You may already have experience of managing and developing a team, or you may be ready to take the next step from leading projects, coaching colleagues or influencing others into your first formal people-management role. What does it take to be a Procurement Manager?

Our successful Procurement Manager will ideally be educated to degree level and either hold, or be working towards, their CIPS professional standard and membership. We’re open to candidates who can demonstrate either established people-management experience or strong readiness to step into a management role, supported by evidence of leading work, coaching others or influencing across teams. You’ll also:

• Have strong commercial acumen and influencing skills
• Be able to demonstrate substantial experience in stakeholder management and influencing skills at various levels
• Show strong leadership potential, whether through proven people management, coaching colleagues, leading projects or supporting others to perform at their best
• Be able to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders with excellent communication skills
• Have previous bid assessment experience
• Excellent knowledge of Public or Utilities Procurement Regulations and other relevant legislation
• Ability to lead a team delivering a varied portfolio and associated workplan with a can-do attitude
• Have a strong level of mathematical reasoning with good organisation skills
• Have strong IT skills
