Job description

Procurement Engineering Analyst/Engineer, Design Support (Mechanical)

AtkinsRéalis is one of Canada's largest private sector nuclear engineering groups. We have been providing a wide range of services to the nuclear industry in Canada and around the world for more than 60 years. We are proud to be the steward of Canadian CANDU nuclear technology.

We are actively seeking qualified professionals to support engineering roles for nuclear projects in major areas, such as new build including SMR in Ontario, international new build, refurbishment, and continuous plant operation support modifications for nuclear power plants.

This role will be based in Mississauga, ON.

Your role within the team:

  • Assist in developing and preparing engineering procurement support deliverables (e.g., equipment and component specifications, calculations, bill of materials (BOMs), technical assessments, vendor document evaluations) for both nuclear and conventional systems, in accordance with AtkinsRéalis / Candu Energy Quality Assurance Programs and project requirements.
  • Perform engineering work related to the specification, assessment, manufacturing, and supply of mechanical components for new build nuclear power plants.
  • Provide technical support to engineering stakeholders to determine the cost, quality, and availability of equipment and components.
  • Provide technical support to analyze technical requirements, vendor information, and documentation to identify suitable suppliers.
  • Review and accept manufacturer’s documentation (procedures, inspection and test plans, non-conformances, design deviation requests) and obtain client acceptance as required.
  • Prepare and review engineering quotation request packages and technical tender evaluations.
  • Prepare and review technical reports for client acceptance.
  • Perform complex procurement engineering and design support assignments independently or under limited supervision.
  • Provide technical guidance to team members or support employees on projects.
  • Attend walkdowns and perform site visits to client and manufacturer facilities and new build sites, as required.
  • Ensure adherence to project delivery schedules and quality standards.
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Support engineering management with updates on progress related to client deliverables.
  • Coordinate with clients, suppliers, stakeholders, and other design disciplines to execute engineering work.

The ideal candidate:

  • Has a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Engineering Science from an accredited university, or is eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario (mandatory).
  • Has at least 5 years of related experience in mechanical and/or process system engineering, with exposure to the manufacture/supply of nuclear and non-nuclear components for CANDU or conventional power plants.
  • Experience in an EPC/project delivery environment is an asset.
  • Experience in the nuclear industry and site engineering is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment such as pumps, heat exchangers, water filtration, demineralizer skids, structures, and components.
  • Familiarity with nuclear codes and standards (CSA N285.0, CSA N299, ASME BPVC Sections II/III/V/IX, etc.).
  • Proficiency with analytical and design tools (e.g., PipeStress, ANSYS, MathCAD) is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Willingness to become a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) and eligible for security clearance.
