Requirements and Nature of Work

The Exam Proctor – Adapted Exams invigilates accommodated exams for students registered with the Academic Accommodations Service. Working in a student-centred environment, the proctor ensures that exams are administered in accordance with approved accommodations while maintaining academic integrity, confidentiality, and a positive exam experience. Proctors play a key role in supporting students who may experience disabilities, medical conditions, mental health challenges, or other accommodation needs. They exercise professionalism, empathy, and sound judgment while following established procedures and responding appropriately to student concerns.

Responsibilities
  • Invigilate examinations for students registered with Academic Accommodations Service for both in person and online exams
  • Respect the University’s policies and regulations, and Academic Accommodations procedures
  • Respect individual accommodation plans and confidentiality of students
  • Maintain academic integrity of examinations
  • Maintain a high standard of client service
  • Demonstrate empathy and compassion at all times
  • Preparation of adaptive measures
  • Retrieval, distribution, and collection of examinations in the exam room
  • Delivery of completed exams to academic units
  • Other exam-related administrative tasks
Essential Qualifications
  • Training in de-escalation and student support
  • Availability of a minimum of 10 hours per week throughout the contract period, including the final exam period.
  • Proven reliability, including strong attendance, punctuality, and adherence to procedures in previous roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise empathy, professionalism, discretion, and initiative when supporting students

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with University of Ottawa campus services or similar institutional environments
  • Strong client service experience in a student-facing role
