Job Description
This position involves duties as a record control clerk for the Department of Social Services’ primary file room. Responsibilities include processing, maintaining, and establishing case files for various programs such as Food Assistance, Medicaid, Work First, and Adult Services. The role requires initiating and closing files, researching and locating files, filing, purging records, and tracking file distribution. Additional duties include processing mail, answering phone calls, researching client information through NC Fast and OLV, and serving as back-up to the front receptionist. The position involves standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 20 lbs., and using computers and software like Microsoft Word and Excel. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are essential.
Requirements
Candidates should possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with at least two years of office assistant / secretarial experience. Skills in typing, business grammar, vocabulary, spelling, punctuation, and independent work completion are preferred. Note : Staff may be assigned to staff emergency shelters during disasters as per State mandates and the Halifax County Emergency Operations Plan.
Compensation
The salary range is $30,342 – $37,945. Halifax County offers a comprehensive benefits package, including membership in the N.C. Local Government Employees’ Retirement System.
