The Process Safety Engineer is within the Operational Excellence team and offers the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills in engineering, particularly in the field of operational safety and will support with managing our refinery audit schedule. The candidate interested in the position must demonstrate a strong interest in learning, understanding and applying Suncor's Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS). This person will be expected to work closely with various departments to help maintain safe operations. The job will be located at the Sarnia Refinery.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Environmental, Mechanical, Electrical engineering or similar
  • Minimum 5 years experience working in engineering, process safety, risk management or EH&S, preferably in an oil and gas or petrochemical business
  • Experience applying risk management principles
  • Experience with investigations using common methodologies, such as Casual Reasoning/Learning, TapRoot, KT, 5 Why or similar
  • Understanding of audit and assurance practices
  • Strong analytical skills, coupled with the attitude of continuous improvement
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to identify potential risks and associated mitigations
  • Strong interpersonal skills: a team player, as well as the ability to deal effectively with personnel at all levels, within and outside the organization
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both oral and written
  • Energized; self-starter; results/success-oriented with the ability to follow through on programs and plans
Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the execution of the refinery's Process Hazardous Analysis program
  • Complete process safety reviews on MOCs
  • Facilitate process risk assessments with multifunctional teams
  • Provide technical support and contribute to conducting Consequence Analysis and Facility Siting
  • Support the management of the audit and assurance schedule and overall support the management of the Conduct Integrated Assurance process
  • Support stewarding Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS), including analysing KPIs, and other supporting data
  • Participate in or lead the investigation of process safety incidents, using Casual Reasoning/Learning
  • Work collaboratively across multiple refinery departments
Location & Other Key Details:
  • You will work out of our Sarnia location in Ontario, located at 1900 St. Clair Parkway
  • Our engineering roles will follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
