Aplin is partnering with a growing Alberta-based consulting engineering firm to recruit a Process Field Reviewer and Drafting/Design Technologist to support a portfolio of water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This is a hybrid field and design role—ideal for a technologist with a blend of CAD drafting experience and on-site construction support expertise.
The successful candidate will split their time between fieldwork (approx. 50%) and office-based design coordination (approx. 50%), contributing to project delivery across the full lifecycle—from design to commissioning. This role is ideal for a hands-on, solutions-driven technologist looking to grow their career in a high-impact environment.

- Support the selection and layout of pumps, valves, piping, instrumentation, and process systems for water and wastewater facilities.
- Coordinate multi-discipline drawing sets (civil, structural, mechanical, HVAC, electrical) for engineering packages.
- Ensure CAD documentation is accurate, well-organized, and aligned with quality standards.
Field Review & Construction Support
- Perform field engineering reviews and site inspections to monitor conformance with design specifications and construction contracts.
- Represent the engineering team on active construction sites—acting as the key liaison between engineering, contractors, and clients.
- Participate in construction meetings and site walkthroughs; record and report progress updates, issues, and design changes.
- Maintain construction documentation including RFIs, shop drawings, progress payment certifications, site instructions, and testing logs.
- Assist with commissioning activities for water/wastewater treatment systems.
Project Coordination
- Contribute to construction contract administration by maintaining documentation logs and tracking change orders, field instructions, and correspondence.
- Support communication flow between the office engineering team and external stakeholders.
- Produce field reports, photo documentation, and as-built markups throughout project execution.
Qualifications
- Diploma in Engineering Design Technology or Mechanical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution (NAIT or equivalent).
- 2–5 years of experience in consulting engineering, ideally in municipal water and wastewater infrastructure.
- Registration with ASET as a Technologist-in-Training (T.T.), with active pursuit or attainment of C.E.T. designation.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Plant 3D (2D and 3D design environments).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence; willingness to travel to project sites across Alberta (including multi-day site stays).
