Suncor Energy Inc. seeks junior Chemical or Mineral Processing Engineers for Fort McMurray, AB to support safe, reliable production and improve safety, quality, and efficiency. Relocation assistance is provided.

You will work with technical and operational teams to optimize plant operations and asset performance in Upgrading, Extraction, and Utilities. This entry-level role includes training and development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in chemical or mineral process engineering.
• 0-5 years of experience.
• Registered or eligible for professional membership with APEGA.
• Strong computer skills; MS Office; exposure to process simulators is an asset.
• Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and optimize process performance to maintain quality, yield, and production efficiency.
• Ensure safe, reliable operations through monitoring, field inspections, and risk assessments.
• Lead troubleshooting, optimization, and improvement projects while mentoring junior engineers.
• Support maintenance, turnarounds, and efficiency initiatives aligned with safety and corporate standards.
• Apply engineering judgment and collaboration to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions including process safety.
• Self-starter with strong communication and teamwork skills.

Minimum Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in chemical or mineral process engineering.
• Seeking new grad individuals or junior engineers with 0 - 5 years’ experience.
• Registered or are immediately eligible for professional membership with the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGA).
• Strong computer skills are required, experience with Microsoft Office suite of programs is essential, exposure to process simulators will be an asset.
• Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent.

Location and other Key details

• Positions are located in Fort McMurray, AB.
• Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday.
• This position has been identified as safety sensitive.
• If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory.
• Relocation support will be provided; we offer housing assistance to eligible individuals.
