Job summary

Polymer Extrusions LTD in Oshawa, Canada, is seeking a full-time Process Engineer to join our production team on the shop floor. You will lead tooling and die design efforts, address tooling issues, and implement process improvements to reduce costs and boost quality.

The ideal candidate has a mechanical engineering background, 1–3 years in manufacturing, strong analytical skills, and proficiency with CAD tools like AutoCAD and SolidWorks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing/industrial engineering technology or an equivalent discipline.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing, production, or process engineering environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and tolerances.
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross‑functionally with production, quality, and sales teams.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).

Responsibilities

  • Lead tooling and documentation control for the extrusion department.
  • Modify wire EDM dies to support production requirements and troubleshoot tooling issues.
  • Learn to design extrusion dies based on rubber compound, durometer, and profile specifications, under the guidance of the Operations Manager.
  • Initiate, evaluate, and process engineering change requests (ECRs).
  • Develop procedural documentation for all departments regarding correct operating procedure.
  • Complete part/tool drawings utilizing AutoCAD and SolidWorks, as needed.
  • Observe safety and security procedures.
  • Support consistent, high-quality output across rubber extrusion via salt tank curing.
  • Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to drive continuous improvement.
  • Develop production process improvements to decrease costs, improve labor and equipment utilization, and maximize quality.
  • Lead and manage Six Sigma and 5S initiatives; document results upon completion of projects and ensure that process improvements and results are sustained.
  • Work with the Quality Department, Sales Department, and Lead Operators on the introduction and qualification of new parts/processes to ensure customer requirements are being met and process efficiency is developed.
  • Work with Sales, suppliers, and Lead Operators across all divisions of Polymer Extrusions to order new tools and replace/remake broken or damaged tools.
  • Assist with any special projects as necessary, including but not limited to equipment purchases, plant layout, new processes, new jobs, and sales requests.

Our Oshawa team is currently recruiting for a Full Time Process Engineer role. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis until the role is filled.

Required Qualifications:

Preferred (but not required):
  • Experience in rubber, elastomer, or polymer extrusion manufacturing
  • Experience modifying or programming wire EDM tooling
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification or equivalent training
  • Experience with extrusion die design
  • Experience working in a small-to-mid size manufacturing plant
Physical Demands:
  • Regular presence on the production floor, including near operating extrusion and curing equipment
  • Ability to move safely around machinery, tooling, and production areas for extended periods
  • Occasional lifting of tooling and parts up to 25-30 lbs
  • Comfortable working in proximity to heat sources (salt tank curing)
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work for CAD, ECRs, and documentation
  • Use of PPE as required in production areas
