Job Summary and Essential Duties:

The Process Engineer develops and improves manufacturing processes by studying product and manufacturing methods. This hands-on role involves working on manufacturing and measuring precision optics and contributing to team efforts.

Using On the Job Training (OJT) and prior experience, the Process Engineer will:

  1. Evaluate manufacturing processes by designing and conducting development projects, applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; confer with equipment vendors; gather operator feedback.
  2. Develop manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment.
  3. Review customer drawings and requirements for manufacturability; collaborate with customers and internal teams to ensure performance goals are met.
  4. Ensure product and process quality by designing testing methods, testing finished products and processes, establishing standards, and confirming manufacturing capabilities.
  5. Complete design and development projects by training and guiding technicians.
  6. Maintain professional knowledge through educational workshops, reviewing publications, networking, and participating in professional societies.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager.

Advancement is based on education, experience, skills, responsibility, leadership potential, and effectiveness.

Education Requirements:
  • B.S. Degree in Engineering or Applied Science.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Five (5) years of optics manufacturing/testing experience or ten (10) years of industrial manufacturing experience.
  • Experience in precision optics production preferred.
  • Experience with metrology systems like interferometers, CMMs, profilometers, autocollimators preferred.
  • Experience with precision machining and GD&T preferred.
  • Knowledge of optical materials and systems preferred.
  • Ability to analyze data for process performance and improvements.
  • Effective team collaboration skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently.
Work Requirements:

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking, and hearing.
  • Prolonged sitting or standing may be required.
  • Visual abilities include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity are necessary.
Work Environment:
  • Manufacturing environment with variable noise levels.
  • Use of oils and solvents may be involved.
  • Generally clean environment, with safety training as needed.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts and fumes.
  • Potential for assignment to various production areas.
