About the Role:

We are seeking a Process Development Technician, Biologics in our Dartmouth, Nova Scotia facility. In this role, you will operate and maintain fermentation and purification equipment in process development laboratories. You will assist scientists during process development activities, which are critical to advancing innovative biopharmaceutical programs. The role may also involve supporting GMP cell banking and pilot plant work activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with scientists to develop and optimize microbial fermentation processes for biopharmaceutical production, including therapeutic proteins and pDNA/mRNA.
  2. Assist in developing downstream isolation and purification procedures for biopharmaceuticals.
  3. Operate laboratory process equipment such as fermenters, centrifuges, homogenizers, bioreactor vessels, filtration apparatus, and chromatography systems.
  4. Perform routine use of instruments like balances, pH/conductivity meters during buffer and media preparation.
  5. Support process transfer from laboratory to production scale.
  6. Assist in preparing, testing, and maintaining cell banks.
  7. Conduct in-process tests, including culture purity testing, culture quantification, Gram-staining, metabolite quantification, and other assays.
  8. Contribute to writing work instructions and experimental progress reports.
  9. Maintain laboratory cleanliness, manage equipment cleaning, order supplies and spare parts, and calibrate equipment.
  10. Follow safety practices in the laboratory environment.

What You Bring to the Role:

  • College diploma in Biotechnology or equivalent in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or Biochemistry. A BSc in these fields is an asset.
  • High attention to detail, with a focus on safety and quality, especially since we are manufacturing lifesaving medications.
  • Experience with Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
  • Relevant industry experience in microbial fermentation or protein purification is an asset.
  • Aseptic handling techniques, sampling, and material analysis skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
