Job summary

A leading company in the process industry is seeking a Process Control Engineer to provide support in both operations and technical documentation. The ideal candidate will possess a specialized engineering degree, APEGA membership, and significant experience in process control strategies, particularly in the pulp and paper sector. This role demands a proactive and safety-focused individual capable of working collaboratively within a multifunctional environment to drive continuous improvement and optimize control processes.

Qualifications

• 5+ years’ experience in the process industry; pulp and paper experience is an asset.
• In-depth knowledge of loop tuning methods.
• Experience with Alarm Management Cycle and Industrial Automation Cybersecurity.

Responsibilities

• Provide support in Process Control and Operations, including tuning and optimization.
• Develop Control Documentation and participate in Technical Reviews.
• Ensure safety standards and best practices are adhered to during all operations.

Provide support or take a leading role in the following areas and corresponding activities:

Process Control and Operations

• Basic and Advanced Process Control Strategies.
• Control Loop Performance and Tuning, including Key Performance Indicator.
• Identification of Control Optimization Opportunities.
• Operations and Production Support.

Design Documentation

• Control Narratives / Cause and Effect Diagrams.
• HMI Configuration Standard.
• Control System Configuration Standard.
• Alarm Philosophy.
• P&C diagrams.

Control Systems and Configuration

• System Health Status, Diagnostics and Troubleshooting.
• Implementation of IoT Practices.
• Control Process Networking Planning and Deployment.
• Cybersecurity Planning.
• Consistent implementation of Logic and HMI standard.
• Historian.

Project

• User Requirement Documentation.
• Control System Upgrade and Mill areas modernization.
• New Initiatives Crew Presentation.
• Management of Change.
• Participation in Technical Reviews.

On-going support

• Process Control System troubleshooting.
• Foster teamwork and continuous communication with Operations.
• Adhere to Company policies, procedures, and Regulatory standards for electrical/instrumentation or process control design changes.
• Meet regularly with E&I team members and operations to identify support opportunities.
• Participate in the On-Call support program.

What you must have :

• Engineering Degree specialized in Process Control.
• APEGA Membership as a P.Eng. or eligible.
• Safety-focused mindset and strong knowledge of safe work practices.
• Responsibility, accountability, ownership, self-starter, and self-motivated to meet deadlines.
• 5+ years’ experience in process industry (pulp and paper experience is an asset).
• In-depth knowledge of Advanced Process Control Strategies and loop tuning methods.
• Assets include Realtime optimization, AI, Machine Learning.
• Experience with Alarm Management Cycle, High Performance, and Abnormal Situation Management Operator Displays.
• Knowledge of OT / IT Manufacturing Best Practices and Industrial Automation Cybersecurity.
• Experience with Historian integration/configuration (MOPS, DataPark, OSI PI), computer virtualization, TCP/IP networking.
• Highly experienced in DCS and PLC configurations, preferably ABB 800xA / AC800M, Bailey Symphony Plus, Siemens PLCs.
• Familiar with Project Management Cycle in a multifunctional environment.
• Strong foundation in Control System documentation: Narratives, PFD, P&IDs, Cause and Effects Diagrams, User Requirements, Functional and Detailed Design Specs.
• Skills in legacy and modern programming languages (Visual Basic, Python, SQL) and data analytics/visualization tools are beneficial.

Salary / Rate Range : $120,000.00 - $150,000.00
